(CBS) It's delicious and it would make you feel a little better. The "Wonder Bar" is an organic snack filled with soy chaste tree berry, herbs and rose oil, covered in swiss chocolate and packing 270 calories per bar. It is also advertised as a way to ease those premenstrual pains and satisfy your sweet tooth at the same time.
"You would indeed see people tell you that they have a mood lift, that they feel better, that some of the cramping or just discomfort that they have will indeed be alleviated a bit," said Adrienne Kramer, general manager of the Montclair, New Jersey company that created the bar.
"I would take something like that. Because it sounds good, warm and sweet," one woman said.
Laughing, another woman was skeptical. "I don't think it's going to work," she said.
"I think my husband would probably have me have it rather than anyone else,"
Dr. Eugene Ellis at Brooklyn's Maimonides Medical Center said the PMS bar could be effective. "Soy properties have estrogenic properties, and estrogen can alleviate the PMS symptoms." However, the "placebo effect can be powerful. So if you believe your chocolate bar is going to help you, it taste good so why not," Ellis said.
It if does work, the chocolate comfort comes with a price of about $3.69 a bar.
Kinz - can not remember the actual properties in chocolate which make this so, but have read that it is true. I can't recall whether it is endorphins or some hormone BUT they liken it to the same process/effects in the body as what happens in that 'falling in love' phase.
