Burger King® Whopper® With Cheese, Large Fries And A Large Soda
Fast Food Dining For this meal, I selected a Double Whopper® with Cheese, large French fries, and a large (20 ounce) cola. Note that the DV or Daily Value is based on a 2,000 calorie per day diet. Nutritional information is also available from Burger King®.
A Big Meal, But Is It Great Nutrition? The Double Whopper® With Cheese is made up of a sesame seed bun with two beef patties, two slices of American cheese, pickles, ketchup, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and mayonnaise. This sandwich is big at just under a pound, and that is without the fries. The calorie count for the Double Whopper With Cheese is quite large. This sandwich has over 1000 calories, with about 600 of those calories coming from fat. This translates to almost 70 grams of total fat. For carb watchers, the bun contains 45 grams of carbohydrates and with the toppings, the carb total comes to 53 to 55 grams. Of that, around 5 grams are dietary fiber. The total protein count for this burger would be about 55 grams. The Double Whopper® With Cheese also has about 1500 milligrams sodium.
There are some vitamins and minerals in this burger with the toppings I included. In fact, you could get nearly 25% of your DV for Vitamin A, 15% of your DV for Vitamin C, 30% of your DV for Calcium, and 45% of your DV for Iron from this sandwich.
A Side Of Fries And A Large Cola The large order of fries contains 500 calories. 200 of those calories come from fat. There are around 800 milligrams of sodium, 60+ grams of total carbohydrates. Twenty ounces of cola is packed with over 300 calories, all from the 80 grams of sugar.
The Bottom Line This meal has around 1900 calories. This meal contains almost all of the calories needed for a whole day, which is around 2000 calories on average. The amoun of sodium is all that you need for a whole day too. There is a lot of fat, a lot of protein and a lot of sugar in this meal. There are a few vitamins, the tomatoes may add a bit of lycopene, and the calcium from the cheese helps, but this small amount of nutritional value is overshadowed by the fats, and tons of carbs - especially the sugars. You may love the taste of a meal with a Double Whopper® With Cheese, but the bottom line is your "bottom" will get a lot bigger if you eat this meal very often.
What To Eat Instead To avoid all the fat, sugar, and calories when you are at Burger King®, choose a salad instead of the burger. The Chicken Garden Salad® is a nice combination of chicken, lettuce, and vegetables. Add a creamy dressing and this salad would still come in under 330 calories, or even less with the lighter dressings. You would even get lots of vitamin A (125% DV) and vitamin C (45% DV). Add a bottled water instead of the soda, or a vitamin C-packed orange juice.
Wow. Definitely food for thought! Have you heard, Burger King, McDonalds, and several other fast food chains are changing their cooking oil?! Trans fat is getting the boot! Hooray!
