I personally try not to eat anything after 6pm. I also have gotten into the habit of not going back for seconds. I think that really helps.

quote: Originally posted by CHCanine: N2b, isnt it amazing how they put high fructose corn syrup in everything!..Everything from mayonaise to peanutbutter. I try to avoid that stuff like the plague.
I try to avoid all white foods..bread, pasta, flour, sugar, etc. Any grain I buy is whole grain, and I wont purchase any overly processed foods.
I try to substitute healthy creative foods for snacks. Low fat pretzels dipped in cottage cheese, whole grain flat pita bread stuffed with spinach dipped in homus (sp?), and guacamole with lots of fresh diced tomatoes.
It is outrageous how the food industry preys on the general public by making the best tasting, most fattening choices available without warning labels! It is truly an epidemic. I had lived in the USA. my entire life. A few years ago we had the opporitunity to live in Greece for a year. We also spent two months in Germany. Greece was very underdeveloped where we lived (we lived in a valley region farming community) Every meal that the average greek family ate was unprocessed whole foods. It was rare to see someone with a weight problem. I was one of the stockiest people there, and I weight 130 and I am 5' 5"! When we came home I was in major culture shock at how large the majority of the people are (at least in this area). Needless to say it really opened my eyes. I did sort of a study to see what we might be eating that the Greeks were not....guess what? Processed foods, the dreaded high fructose corn syrup, mass quanities of meat with every meal, lumped together with a ton of super refined carbs. My husband says I am a born again hippy. I try not to eat anything that is too "doctored" unless I cook it. I also have done away with many of the normal cleaning agents in favor of more natural choices..(vinegar, melaleuca). Sorry, I sort of went off on a tangent here. I just worry about the health of the general population who are not informed. A.

I know this is a old thread but thought I would throw in a few. These are the things that can make you gain weight. * Stress * Age * Genes * Hormones * Toxins * Sleep We need carbs the Institute of Medicine recommends adults get between 40-65% of dietary energy from carbs. It is the type of carbs that you have to look out for. You have two sets of carbs the Simple carbohydrates which are your sugars such as fructose, glucose, and lactose, as well as in nutritious whole fruits. Then you have your Complex carbohydrates which are found in starchy vegetables, grains, rice, breads and cereals. The thing of it is you want to eat foods that are good sources of carbohydrates which is whole-grain cereals, brown rice, whole-grain breads, fruits and vegetables. The ones you want to stay away from are those that are found in candy, soda and refined grains like white rice and white flour. You also have fat burning foods. * Celery * Cabbage * Onions * Carrots * Cauliflower * Grapefriut * Green Leaf Lettuce * Lemons * Watermelons This is a small list of food the burn fat they are more foods that can burn fat.
