Can you remember the first time you ever sat up on a horse and went for your first ride?
Were you instantly hooked, scared, nervous?

Well, I do remember my first ride although I was only about 2. My grandpa lifted me up on the back of one of his workhorses (a dark one)and my brother, who was already mounted, took me around the corn field. I remember that big old neck and that black mane and the ride was way too short.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

I don't remember, but I'll look for pictures and post them. Wasn't my first ride, but at an age much earlier then most people's first ride. I do remember the first time I cantered. I was at my babysitter's house, an older girl from riding class, and we were out in the field riding Misty, her old gray Arab gelding, we were going double and she's like you want to canter, I was 4 and like HELL YEAH! Bareback going through the field totally awesome!

I remember my first ride in an open field. This was a big thing at my house being able to go outside the fence lines. I was with a friend of mine (nikki) who was on a pony/paint cross. We rode everyday all day in the arena and fenced pastures since I can remember my first horse. I thought I knew this horse better.
His name is Cato Cann and at the time he was 5 and I was 9. Well, mom left to go to the post office and we had a brainy idea to go to the cut corn field to have a who's horse is faster.
LOL
Boy did I find out the hard way. Our fields are 8 acres long from north to south with a cow line of trees in the south.
We started in the north and flew to the tree line ... nikki was no-where Cato took off and headed for the tree line ... I was soooo scared the whole time and all I did was think he's going to stop at the trees. Not. I had to stop him. And I tried. So hard did I try. Then when we got to the tree line he did a slide stop and pivited towards nikki behind us. And I flew right into the trees and into the cow fence. I think he wanted to jump and keep going.
I was scuffed up bad, but I knew I had to play it off or my mom would ground me from riding.
If he didn't pivit I would have stayed on. It was totally unexpected.
I learned from that ... and worked with him on stopping in the pastures.
It's funny how you learn things in life.
It wonders me to this day though wether he wanted to jump or show me what's he's got.
