Thank the Lord I haven't had any serious injuries regarding horses. I've had plenty of bumps and bruises. I've been stepped on I dunno how many times, but nothing to warrant anything other than swearing from me.
But a few that stick out...
Our paint mare...she was 3 mos old and ate up with pneumonia when we got her. I was 18 and my mom was too ill to do any medicating, so it became my job. I was giving her pennicillin shots and has rotated to the back thigh muscle. I tapped before popping her with the needle and everything, just as I had done for the last week...well she freaked out and kicked me square in the thigh. No "major" damage, but I had a blood clot form the size of an egg.
Second one...
I was body clipping one of the minis and she cow kicked because I hit a ticklish spot on her underside and she got me right in the mouth...blood poured and I couldn't feel a thing. I was expecting to spit out teeth, but thankfully, I still have them...lol.
Third....
I was 18 and got snowballed into buying a 18H Percheron that was supposed to be "bomb-proof". Turns out he was barely green broke and had NO manners whatsoever. When I would go to catch him he'd show his rear to me and take aim.
One day I was going to brush him, which he loved...he was a darling with a lead on, any other time he was a demon. As I approached him, which was a 45 degree angle from the fence (I know, not very smart on my part, but he was my first horse) he swung his rear around. I was too close to the fence to run and get out of the way and in perfect kicking range to break bones...so I did use my brain for once and ran toward him getting as close to his hindquarters as I could. I did get kicked, right in my arse. Thankfully, I was so close to him that he pushed me away and into the fence more than actually kicking me. I had a bruised tush for the longest time....he wore a size 5 shoes so his feet were huge. I was bruised all the way across. Had I been farther away, he may have gotten enough momentum to kick higher and would have broken my back or pelvis for sure. Needless to say, I placed him...he was way too much horse and way too untrained for a novice such as myself.
Knock on wood, that has been the worst of it.
