OK, this is exactly as the topic states. I really think this guy is proud cut, and this is what I know of him, he's nippy, rude, pushy, NOT MY HORSE, and today he damn near killed my mother mounting another horse we were moving today. He tries mounting all the time, and it's too dangerous. Another gelding at that. This gelding(the mounter) is the one that was "re-gelded" this past summer, he was bought at an auction as a gelding, well guess what he was packing? Another nut. Ridgeling, Cryptorchid in dog talk. I'm seriously thinking he was proud cut though, when gelding him this summer, (I was "supervising")yeah, I saw the goods go into the side lawn, and then he flipped over whilst restrained, the man performing the procedure(excellent at it, I've seen him in action MANY times, and great results) had a few choice words and everyone(farrier, gelder, me) who's dealt with this horse says he's absolutely untrustworthy, which after being kicked in the stomach sideways from the front, I agree with. Any suggestions? He's not mine, but I'm terrified he's going to kill my sister one of these days. I'd love to work with him, the farrier said he would, BUT little sister says no go. Frustrating!
How old is he BRD? Why won't your sister let you work him?

He's two, my sister won't let me work him, because I'm "not taking dressage lessons." I also am heavily involved in horse racing, which she thinks is very evil. You'd have to meet her to understand.
This sounds a little rough - and it has to be done in a manner where the horse is NOT hurt in any way [or it defeats the whole purpose] - I have done it and it works. I'd throw him and sit on his neck for a couple of hours - don't let him get up until you're ready. The total change in attitude is amazing. It was in one of my old books - and I had a gelding who was like that - blood tests showed he wasn't proud-cut - but he was dangerous and getting worse. It was either try that or have him put down. It only took the one time - it did NOT break his spirit - since he hadn't been hurt, he didn't get shy or spooky. He just decided he could behave. I've never seen anything like it. I've never had occasion to do it again, but, if I needed to, I would. Life is too short to mess with a dangerous animal.

I've had to do that too, AmPugs, and the results are truly amazing, after they experience that, they learn to trust and accept whatever comes in a more polite manner. Unfortunately, I have no control over the situation, and I don't think that with this horse I will be here, physically, to help her when she gets buffalo'd by him or injured. I love my sister, but as far as getting along, if I suggest it, she will do EVERYTHING to avoid it. I know she loves him and hates to see him go, but she is at college and my mother mentioned something about letting her know that he can't stay here if he continues, maybe she'll let me after she hears that who knows. But after seeing my mother almost get smacked in the head by a hoof, twice, and me trying to get the dumb bastard off of the other gelding(she had just led into the pasture and was trying to remove his halter), being tossed out of the way, it's not nice. Quite honestly after being kicked in the stomach something should've happened, but oh no, not her baby, sorry, it's personal now, my mom almost got hurt.
I'd have the blood work done to make sure they haven't missed anything else. If he shows to be a true gelding, I'd do whatever it takes to keep the people around him safe. Like I said life is too short - I've learned that the hard way.
