I was wondering if anyone heard any more news on Barbaro (Derby Winner). How successful was his surgery. I know the last I heard he was showing interest in the neiboring horses but the vets were still unsure......I'm praying he makes out ok. Such a tough thing for a horse to have to go thru. I knew one TB that was retired due to a front leg injury. (I think it was a torn ligament or tendon) He was beautiful but he wasn't in the best of care and was eventually put down. I wish someone else would have taken him but this woman was the only one willing to "try" him and that was just because she saw $$ from his possible get. But it didn't work out for her.....or the horse.

Barbaro is doing well considering. 27 screws, I believe. He was fitted with a special shoe to help prevent laminitis in his other hind hoof. Go to The Bloodhorse to see a slide show, and daily updates.

He seems to be able to move around, and that is important. Horses don't often do well w/ long rehabs - and the higher strung they are, the worse it is on them. As I said on the other thread, this is the part that will try the depth of his heart. My prayers and good wishes go out to him.

It's a good sign, I think, that he has come as far as he has... shows heart! Thanks for the link, SRT I must confess I got broad-sided looking at that stunner Bluegrass Cat.
