Does anyone know anything about miniature bulldogs ? I have heard that it was a mix of a pug/english bulldog. I have heard also a boston terrier/english bulldog and i have also heard that it was a french bulldog/english bulldog. I know that a miniature bulldog is NOT an AKC breed. Someone had told me that they purchased a miniature bulldog for $3,000.00 from Arkansas. I just want to know what an actual miniature bulldog is, in terms of what is breed together to get a mini bulldog. Thanks for your time I

There is no such thing. I went to a web site and what they claimed were 'mini' were the same "standard" size as the bulldogs I breed.

It is just a way for people to try and snow unsuspecting folks into buying a "new" breed. If you had a "true" mini bulldog you would not breed anything together to get it...you would have to breed them down in size over a period of time. Anything else is just a mixed breed...pug mixed with bulldog. etc. You would also want to make sure the what they were passing off as a mini was not a dwarf.

A miniature bulldog cannot be registered with AKC, but, they are wonderful puppies.--people will pay big bucks for new breeds. You are correct, sometimes they cross an english (female) with a boston or pug---the boston is cuter. I saw them in GA once--so cute.

A miniature Bulldog? As a breed there is no such animal. We raise American Pugs which are a combination of Boston Terrier and Pug - They're a nice little dog, but even though we are on our third generation and have a registry for them - they are still basically a cross-breed and should be advertised as such. We won't go for Kennel Club recognition until 2015 and we will probably have to change the name because true Pug breeders will object to our use of their name - that's their right. Around here - the 'Puppy Brokers' require registration papers on any puppy they take - so all sorts of 'new' breeds are popping up. A few I can thing of off-hand are the American Bulldog which started out as a way to register white Boxers and has developed into pretty much a breed of its own. Pit Bulls started as a general name for out-crossings of Staffordshire Terriers. If there had bee no outcrossing at all, we would all still be raising wolves.
If you are going to get a puppy, make sure first all the normal stuff - like home, time, space, etc. Then type - hunting, housedog? protection, fun - and breed - if there are several of the type you are looking at. Then the hard part - find someone that you can learn to trust that has what you're looking for. You really need them to be honest with you. We like what we have or we wouldn't have them. 'HorneyBull' likes what they have and sounds very honest about it. Just because a puppy is 'cute' doesn't mean the as an adult it will fit into your lifestyle. The pounds and rescue groups are full of dogs who didn't fit.

Bulldogs are bulldogs i think. However I do know that french bulldogs are a little smaller then English bulldogs. I don't think they would mix boston terriers to make one either. Boston terriers are to different from bulldogs. The guy from Arkansas may mean a french bulldog since they are sometimes expensive.

Lace - HorneyBull raises English Bulldogs and is very knowlegeble on the subject. French Bulldogs do look a lot like an English except that their ears stand. The Boston started as a combination of English and some other 'bulls' that were around at the time [ without looking it up - I can't remember the exact crosses used.]
A lot if puppymills and commercial breeders [at least in this area] cross the English with smaller shortfaced dogs to get a puppy that looks like a bulldog so they can ask the higher price. They advertise them as all sorts of things and ask outlandish prices.
Research the breeds you are interested in and any 'breeder' who is selling them. Them you won't get taken by scam artists who are only out for the big bucks.

Then why do they call them a mini bulldog Confused Its simply another thing to cross the poor old pug with. Its not that I don't love my bulldog but lets enjoy both of these awesome breeds separately. Lets hope the poor little pugs aren't trying to do the birthing Frown MM

True Miniature Bulldogs are a recognized breed with the Miniature Bulldog Club of America, www.mbcoa.org. The MBCOA is taking all the right steps in order to have them recognized by the AKC. Miniature Bulldogs are Pure Breed English Bulldogs that have been breed down in size. A true Miniature Bulldog IS NOT A CROSS BETWEEN A PUG AND BULLDOG. Although there are many "breeders: doing this. The Breeder is Arkansas is a prime example of this. The Miniature Bulldog will gain AKC status just like the Miniature Bull Terrier, Miniature Aussie Shepherd, Miniature Poodle, Miniature Doxi, and so on. The first step in the process is a solid National Breed Organization such as the Miniature Bulldog Club of America which has grown from 6 members to over 4000 registere Miniature Bulldogs. They have shows, conventions, Meet Ups, and a strong foundation. Please visit our site www.minibulldogs.com for future Litters, information and pictures. You can also visit the MBCOA @ www.mbcoa.org.

Does this smaller body make health problems worse. I know some of the bullies problems come from having so much packed into such a small area?? Lots of weight to put on small bodies already hip problems etc.. MM
