I'm ready for my first dog, but im allergic to cat dander. I'm worried I will be dog allergic. Advice please on if the two are the same, and if some dogs don't create allergic reactions. thanks.
I am VERY allergic to cats, but not at all to dogs. Before you decide to get a dog, I would definitely find some dogs to be around. You dont want to get a dog, then find out you are allergic to it. Go to a friends house that has a dog and see what your reaction is. You really need to get in the dogs face and play with it. You could even let the dog sleep on something (like a blanket) and then you sleep with it. Just make sure your ARE NOT allergic to dogs before you get one.
Also, some dogs cause less allergies that others, but not with all people. I am not sure what breeds but maybe some else can help you with that.
Just wanted to let people know that you can also be allergic to certain type of rodents but not all.
Ex My mom is allergic to rats but not dormice. While I am allergic to dormice but not rats.

Hi, Yorkshire terriers and shihtzu's are both breeds with hair not fur and are thus hypoallergenic. They do however need to be bathed and groomed more often for that reason. I have yorkies and bath mine about once per week. They are the sweetest little lap dogs I have ever seen. My like to be held all the time and are very low energy, play a little and then rest alot. The breed standard is 7lbs and under to show so should always be small. Am willing to answer any and all questions that I can about the breed.

Peace.
I too am allergic to cats, but I have one. And I am allergic to dogs. I just got one, 8 months ago. She is a toy poodle and doesn't make me sneeze or wheeze at all. She is smart, sweet and friendly, not a mean bone in her body, plus she is a great "cuddle buddy." I don't know where the snippy, high strung stereotype for poodles came from, but she is totally sweet! I can't imagine a better dog. They come in three sizes. I hope you check them out.
A friend tried a product from Aller-Rx and it completely cured her husband's allergies to their basset hound. If you find you have allergic reactions, try that before getting rid of the dog! Aller-Rx
Bowie, One of the best breds to place in a home with allergies, also very good with kids is the West Highland White Terrier. also known as a westie. Hope this helps.
