FENCE ROW TO FIRESIDE
By Joyce Jenkins
[] “Fixin’ Foosie”
It has been a long, long time since I have asked for community help, but the time has come once again
for me to set this in prayer before you.
Nearly two weeks ago, a tiny dog that we at the office all know and love began to feel a little off. Nothing was real obvious, but he was sitting in the front of his cage a lot, and not barking continually as we went in and out of the kennel room. Foose was not demanding our attention as much as usual. Foose was just not himself.
At first we thought perhaps he was just a little off balance as his owner had taken on a new job to help with bills and he went with her everyday to that job also, just like he does to our office. You see, Foose is only a five pound tea-cup toy poodle and pocket puppie’s become just that. Pocket puppies can go almost anywhere with their owners and so he did.
Last Saturday, (April 1st), Foose was very weak and needed a blood transfusion late in the afternoon. We were shocked by his anemic state.
By Monday his condition had become so critical that he had to be hospitalized on constant IV drips and he had endured no less than two more blood transfusions by Wednesday morning. Unable to control little Fooses’ platelet loss, we transferred him to Auburn University.
Foose rode for the two hour ride in his ‘mama’s’ lap, with his IV bag hanging on a hook from the window behind the seat.
Auburn Veterinary School took Foose in immediately and began feverishly working on him. His doctor calls his owner twice a day with a full report on his condition.
Yesterday, April 8, 2006, was a good day for Foose, his platelets rose to 30,000! But alas this morning they had dropped to a mere 17,000. It was pretty clear that he would have to have another dose of blood to keep going. His diagnosis is ITP which is an autoimmune blood disease which causes his immune system to attack and destroy his own blood cells.
When all this began, Foose weighed in at a hefty 5.6 pounds. He is now below five pounds.
Foose has been one of the finest little dogs I have ever met. He loves every one he meets and has blessed many people in all the places he has traveled with his ‘Mama’, just by merely being the joyful, perfect tiny dog he is. One could not look at Foose with his tiny coal black eyes and tiny Poodle haircut and his wiggling, wagging tail and not smile!
We have a prayer chain going all over the country for Foose’s healing. We have prayed that his doctors will find the right combination of drugs to stabilize this little fella, restoring his body function. We are asking you to join in this effort.
And now comes the part I am least able to do, but must. I need to raise funds for Foose’s staggering medical bill at the University. Not only will he be there for some time yet, but he also will need costly Chemo therapy drugs for some time to come to combat his own immune system. Foose’s owners are common folks with limited resources.
Monday, April 10th, I will be opening an account in the bank of Terrell for Foose’s expenses with a donation from me. Please, if you can, help me help Foose. Nothing will be too small to be of help.
With prayers of thanks and gratitude, I know this community will come forth and help in this endeavor. May God bless you for your prayers and any other help you can spare.

Beleive me this is not a scam.............you can call Auburn University if you like. I have been on this board (primarily as a 'looker')for a few years and just hoped someone would even say a prayer for Foose. If you need proof please tell me what it is.
(344)844-4690 and ask if they have a patient named 'Foose'!
