My kitty Oreo just passed away this morning. I got her in 1985. SHe lived with my parents. Here is my question. They have lots of food left of hers canned iams, wiskas soft pouch pounce treats and wiskas dry food. Can I safely give this food to my 12 week old yorkie girl?

I am so sorry about the passing of Oreo. It hurts to lose a pet that has been a part of the family for so many years.

There will be many opinions on the pros and cons of feeding the cat food to your puppy. I would call my vet. If he says no, why not donate them to a local shelter. I just returned from donating some cat food that our cats would not eat.

I had a cat one time who would eat dog food, kinda the other way around, but then again he ate anything: chocolate, lettuce, maple syrup, or he would try to lick mt feet.....weird cat..... Anyway, I agree with Rayna...give the food to a shelter or to a freind who has cats....

I agree that cat food is not that great for dogs. I do know that some dogs like catfood because some catfood is really salty.

Dog Food and Cat Food are formulaetd diffrently. Cat food has more protean, and a diffrent mineral mix. Cats are pure carnivors while dogs are rather omniverious, able to digest some vegitable matter.

Nether is good for the other for every day consumption. Treats and snacks, sure.

If your cat food is salty, that is not a good thing.
