I have 2 Silkie bantams one hen and one rooster.
In the days I have owned these 2 the hen has laid 2 eggs. After laying she has no interest in them she does not set on them. There just left there...I am not looking to eat them I want to hatch them. So i bought them in to see if i Could incubate them myself. I have about a 10 gallon bucket..I took a small pencil box cut the top off and placed it inside the 10 gallon bucket...Then i put some water into the bottom of the bucket to relate huminty I have 110 watt buld in a lamp I have put down into the bucket about a inch or 2 away from the egg which is setting in a nest of hay. Is this good enough to hatch the egg? Or should i just leave the eggs alone she will hatch them herself in due time? any information would help me out I am first time chicken owner.

It's been a long time since we had chickens & they were not Silkies. Usually a hen will lay a nest full of eggs before she begins to set on them. Couple of things that I have been told or think that I remember correctly.......as hens age they tend to be less interested in setting on eggs. Banties usually lay smaller amounts of eggs. Moving chickens from one place to another will often cause a break in their egg laying cycle. You may just need to wait till your girl gets used to her new quarters. If you want her to set you probably should provide a nest for her that will not be disturbed for the duration of the egg laying & setting on the eggs.
Last but not least I think you will be unhappy with your home made incubator (I built one many years ago !!!!).
