It's been a long time since we had chickens & they were not Silkies. Usually a hen will lay a nest full of eggs before she begins to set on them. Couple of things that I have been told or think that I remember correctly.......as hens age they tend to be less interested in setting on eggs. Banties usually lay smaller amounts of eggs. Moving chickens from one place to another will often cause a break in their egg laying cycle. You may just need to wait till your girl gets used to her new quarters. If you want her to set you probably should provide a nest for her that will not be disturbed for the duration of the egg laying & setting on the eggs. Last but not least I think you will be unhappy with your home made incubator (I built one many years ago !!!!). charly
