does anyone know what i can do about my dog's gas? seriously, she is a 4 month old pitt bull and has had the most horrendous gas expulsions since she was 3 weeks old. Doesn't seem to matter what she eats, she still has major gas attacks every time she falls asleep and it's quite embarassing in public. She's in perfect health, it's just her scent that is threatening....help!!
I have had bulldogs for about 10 years and they always had bad gas.I use puppy chow now and hadn't had any trouble with gas at all.I don't give dog treats either as when I have with in hours they had gas.Table scraps could also add to the problem.Good Luck as I know all to well what it is like company comes over and your dog runs everyone out the door.LOL
It could be your dogs diet. Did you know that the dry dog food that you buy in the store is a horrible diet? I mean, if you get the cheap food, then it's cheap for a reason. Have you considered feeding your dog a BARF diet? It's not for everyone, but it's really a great diet! If you don't want to feed your dog a BARF diet, or you just don't have the time to, then there are a few great animal food products out there. I will include a few links about BARF: http://www.pets4life.com/art11.html http://home.earthlink.net/~pawsreflect/nutrition.html http://www.bluegrace.com/barf.html
I strongly suggest highly researching the BARF diet before committing to it. There are many books and web sites. Be warned, your vet may be skeptical but this really is the best thing for your dog.
Hope I've helped, or at least provided you with new information!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!! I knew someone out there would be able to help me. I do feed my dog quality food and I've tried several brands and the same result. I got her at 3 weeks old and she was like that then. I thought maybe it was genetic. I'll look into the BARF diet since I hadn't heard of that one. I do animal rescue and I appreciate any information on pets that anyone wants to share with me. Thanks again and have a nice day!!
I have a Dobie who HAD really bad guess. I would go around saying who did a no no in the house. IN the car was the worst..I've pulled over to just make sure he didn't have a no no in the car and to air it out. My advice DO NOT FEED a dog food with wheat or corn. Feed a dog food made with humane grade products. Supplement diet with BARF. Feeding a big dog an all BARF diet is pricey.Brands: Chicken Soup for dog lovers, Senisble Choice Chicken and Rice Or Lamb and Rice. INNvoa. JUST don't feed corn or wheat at all. The coats will look better too
I was told by a lady that has a Doberman with a bad gas problem to feed the dog a tablespoon af plain yogurt with active cultures every day and it will stop the gas. I tried it with my English bulldog and it helped!

I'm trying out a new dog food. I'm not sure if she likes it. I'm inclined to think she was born with this problem cuz she had it when she was 3 weeks old and still drinking only milk. I don't know for sure. i do appreciate everyone's advice on this and olive oil does help the doggie's coat, but it does help them to go potty too, if you know what i mean I'm willing to try anything once as long as it's good for my dog. She's like my daughter and is only 5 months old as of yesterday. She almost died on us twice due to the breeder's negligence, but I won't get into that. I think that might have made us a bit overprotective of her. She's getting really big too, but she has no idea she's a dawg. She thinks she's a person and even has to have fast food when we do. I guess she's rotten in more ways than one, eh?.Grin...
my vet recommended science diet---I don't think she's liking it much though....it seems really hard for her to eat. I'll try it a couple of more days and then try and figure out if I can afford the barf diet--i haven't had a chance to look into it much, but I plan on it this week. I was trying purina one lamb and rice and she liked it really well, but no change in the gas dept.
Purina and Eukanuba and all those "premium" foods are just like the cheaper ones, filled with corn hulls (fillers) and meat by-products. If you don't think you can afford the barf diet, you should check out some of these natural dog foods: www.nutroproducts.com www.flintriverranch.com
Nutro is the one that sells in stores, and they have a "store locater" on their site. I have a store that sells some right down the street. Hopefully your dogs gas will clear up. My mom's dog is part pit bull and she's had gas all her life. It's so gross. My mom never really did anything about it though. Oh, and if you feed her table scraps, stop. lol. Especially cheese. EWWWW. If you want to give her a treat try some kind of veggie if she'll eat it. Or you can buy "all natural" doggie treats. Good luck!
