have you ever seen a red breasted african grey?
I know that red african greys are out there and it is genetic- I have apair that give me babies with lots of red- one full red breasted baby last yr- one parent is flecked with red from the chest to the vent- the baby was beautiful.
it's kind of hard to see it in the picture- it was alot brighter in person

I can't help with the picture thing, I could try and post it for you. I have seen pictures of greys with more red on their chest area. I haven't seen any with a solid red chest though. I can't remember where I read it at but it was somewhere. It said that some of them with the extra red would sometimes molt out to a normal grey. They don't know why some have that extra red. Weird itsn't it. lol

lead poisoning can cause the red- but since i test for lead- i know it's not that.i just got a new grey that has a red chest and back - had the lead levels checked as the bird had solder holding up a toy in it's cage- normal levels- so it's due to plucking damaging the feather. now my other bird has never plucked so I know it's not that.
as far as the babies loosing the red- some of mine do but some don't

Umm Its there rotten. Its not a bright red. But more of a brushed red, as if someone took a paint brush dipped in red and lightly brushed across the breast of the bird. I do believe those are the congo subspieces. Bali please correct me if I am wrong. Its not offten I seen them as babies. I haven't heard of the red showing up on the timnehs.

My young Temneh looked just like that(thats why I asked)... now his upper beak is even more horn colored.
He/she did have some slight flecks of red...they are gone now though.

the pics are of a timneh but I do also have congos with the red- by the way- timnehs have maroon colored tails and darker grey bodies so any red is much darker on them. on my congos they are the same color red as the tails.
