Does anyone here make their own bird toys? What kind of toys do you give your birds? Mine have a fancy for whiffle balls, so there is one or two in each of the large birds cages and I buy they cat toy balls that jimgle for the smaller birds.

The only dumb question is the one that goes UNASKED!!!!

Yes I make some of my own bird toys. My tiels love the foot toys. Be careful with the cat balls. Mine only get those undersupervision now. I had one tiel take a ball apart. A few also like the wooden toys that they can destroy.

Dals,

Thanks for the tip about the cat toys.. I buy the heavy solid plastic ones that they basically can just push around in their cage to make noise. Big Grin Can you post some pics of they toys you have made?

Yes I can post some of the toys I have made, although I don't have many left any more. On my sennie list we do a birdie gift exchange during certain times of the year. And I just participated in 1. I do have plenty of foot toys that I can post. But I have made a few perches, a little stick girl/guy that I gave away, but I can make more. Trying to remember what all I have in my tub. LOL. I will dig what I have out and post pictures later.

I am going to pick up our Macaws new playstand today Big Grin. Will post a pic of Elmo on it once I get it together and him on it. The lady I got Elmo from is a distributor for a company and I got the playstand for a VERY resonable price.. I just may have to buy another Big Grin.

I put a plastic army man and hang him from the top of the cage, and my tiel massacres him. Just throwing and biting, and when he gets too mean, I take it out. I have a hanging thingy with a mirror and a perch that they love. He likes to play with a bouncy ball, he doesn't chew on it, just pushes it. The parrot likes her wooden toys. She chews on them, and also likes to throw things as well.

I make bird toys for shows-we do large and small toys- but mostly for larger birds. I don't want to post individual pics so here is a link if anyone wants to see.

we use natural leather and food dyes (koolaid is good, beet juice will also work- but don't use spinch- not a very pretty green-yuk!)
we also use alot of natural branches (apple is really good)

try getting a macaw or cockatoo sized toy. Sometimes if you go to the bird toy places online or in catalogs, they have a section for heavy chewers. Hope this helps, lol I'm not sure if i could make one that he couldn't destroy quickly, I don't have the experience for the larger toys. Now if a month ago I would have known you needed a heavy duty toy, I had one. I just sent a really big fish shaped toy out on my bird exchange. LOL

I'm not sure if shes still here or not. I haven't seen her on in ages. Have you tried the big toys on ebay? Sometimes you can get those for cheaper than the pet store prices. Most of the wood I have for toys is pine and thats pretty soft. So I don't think one of those would last long. Sorry I couldn't be much help.
