I'm not sure. I've never bred or owned finches before. I've only read up on them a little bit, and I haven't found any sites that go too far in depth. I do hope to get a male and female sometime though.

They are fun to have.... inexpensive too, the Zebras anyway. I guess the biggest purchase is the cage. They do go through a lot of seed and millet.
Im pretty sure the pair that had the chicks are experienced... it only took them about 3 weeks to settle in to my home. The other pair still have not nested yet....I think they are young first timers? But they are very curious about the baby chicks.

Neat. The finches I want are kind of like a piebald color, brown with white splotches.

The pied Zebras.... or the society finches?
I have 3 pied Zebras. They are pretty... 2 are dilute pied (light fawn/white) and I have a normal pied cock... he is adorable with the darkest orange almost red beak.
The first few weeks he would try to scare me away from the cage by flying at me like a hummingbird and chattering like he was really mad.
Have you been to Gary Landrys finch site yet?

I'm not sure what kind they are. I only want to breed maybe once or twice so I can have more finches for myself. Do you have the link to that finch site? I'm not sure if I've been there yet or not.

Oh, post pictures if you can, of the pied birds, maybe that's the kind I want, or maybe it's the society finches.

This Guy even ships through the post office just like ordering day old poultry...
I didnt get my birds from him... a guy in my own hood breeds them and his little boy is friends with my girl.
The society finches sound like fun too... but they are not as colorful. You also cant visually sex the societys like the Zebra.
All 4 of the zebra chicks are out of the nest now... they still beg for food from the other adults tho.

Neat. Thankz for the link. The birds I like are society finches. I'll probably get regular zebras or something though, since you can't sex society's visually. What do you feed them? Millet and seeds and stuff, but do you feed them mealworms or anything like that?
