Ok I have a question. I have researched budgie breeding. but I haven't yet found an answer to my question. Can you inbreed Budgies?

Cathy to answer your question, Can you inbreed them? YES. Should you do it is another. It depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your flock. Are you after a particular color, personality, ETC???

Personally I would not and dont inbreed my birds.

Cathy I dont breed budgies, but tiels instead. And I have to agree with pape on the inbreeding. To me it takes alot of knowlege (not saying you don't have it) for it. If there is a fault or something that you don't like about one, and you breed it to a relative then chances are its going to intensify that fault. I won't do it. I was recently offered a olive(emerald)/wf tiel that I turned down, because the tiel that I would put her in with share the same mom.
So while you can, sometimes its not the best choice to make.

I agree that unless you are working on a new color etc- then you should not inbreed. the budgie gene pool is pretty large- breed for size as well- some a getting pretty pewny lately.
