hi........ that all depends on the space that you have available. And do you decide already on the species of Finches. For Starters I would recommend "Zebra Finches" and "Society Finches". They are relative easy going little Guys and breed very well, even in a smaller Avairy. Parakeets need a good size space for breeding. Good luck, Tiffany

Very Good Pluba

Depends on your own lifestyle and what you are breeding them for. If you're breeding for money, I won't say which is better, because I won't help a greed breeder. But if you just read a little bit, you'll learn that budgies breed best in small flocks, and finches best in single pairs. Just do a quick search like 'breeding parakeets' or 'breeding finches'. The finches can be pretty exciting!

If you even want finches to produce eggs, you have to give them mealworms, and other freezedried types, it helps too if you coat the mealworms in a calcium powder (like what is available for reptiles). I had star finches that bred like crazy! That was all I had to give them and one of those wicker nests available in pet stores, and some nesting material. No one should ever breed for money as there first priority in my opinion, i had a pair of parakeets when i was very young ( they were my mothers) and they had babies enexpectantly, we had to take the babies away almost from the start, the mother tried to kill them, she plucked one little guys eye out, we kept him (one eyed jack)but it was very hard, we hand fed them, took them to the vet and my mom basically couldnt leave the houose for a long time just to make sure they were ok, it is very hard work, just make sure you know what you are getting into before you buy some birds, or any other breeding animal for that matter,

well.........making the most money out of breeding should never be an issue, Animal Boy! As any responsible Breeder will tell you, is it Dog/- Cat/- or Bird-Breeder, they are all just glad when they are able to break even in the end. There is a lot involved in breeding. Propper nutriton, lots of love and care, Vet Bills, the right cages, ect. It's not just throwing a Pair together, and hope they will multiply. My little daughter is 8 years old, and she is breeding her owen Zebra/-and Society Finches, that she proudly shows at our local little Bird/-Exotic Animal Shows/Fairs. She has lots of fun doing this, but if and when she sells some Babies that where produced, it goes for Food, Vitamins, ect. I'am sure there are a Bird Breeders out there that make a lot of money out their Birds, but they breed in Quantiry not Quality. So,..........what I try to say here is: NEVER, EVER start breeding because of hoping to make fast money, because it's not going to happen. Do it for the Love of the Breed, your enjoyment, Color-mutation, and improvment of the Breed/Species that you decide on. Best wishes, Tiffany

The only reason I ever bred birds was because I enjoyed it, it was a hobby to me, like how some people build trains and little towns, the birds kept me busy. I did sell most of what I bred, but I never hoped to make anything off them. Official "Timette"™ Luv ya TIMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
