I have a question for other bird owners. I have a friend trying to tell me that I can NOT keep Macaws and cockatoos in the same room as the dander from the cockatoos can make my Macaws deathly ill. Yet the same person who told me this keeps a pair of breeding Scarlet Macaws and a pair of Triton Cockatoos in the same breeding room????

My question is has anyone else heard of this? I have tried searching for info with no luck.

The only dumb question is the one that goes UNASKED!!!!

I have never heard of this before. I know the toos have lots of dander, thats just them. I think most of the ausltrian birds do. I would ask them why you CAN'T have the macaws and the toos in the same room, why CAN they. Maybe you could email a breeder that breeds both and ask them? I know quite a few people that have both birds and they don't room them in different places, unless there is just no room for both in the same room.

I've never heard that before. I suppose anything is possible, but I believe your furniture will suffer more from the dander than your macaws. Check with an avian vet though - I would be interested in the answer.

ok- I have heard of this- and I will say that I keep my macaws in the same room as my toos. what this person is referring to is an allergy that macaws CAN get- they don't all have it- so if your macaw starts getting wheezy- then you will have to move someone. I use an air purifier and this helps- just make sure you get a good one otherwise you will be buying a new one again after the first either isn't doing the job or burns out due to all the dust.

Well the vet said the same thing Bali did. Some MAY get it, it is NOT that they are ALL going to get it.

I am thinking of getting the Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image. Has anyone had experience with it as far as use in their bird rooms? Or have you heard of someone who does use it?

Ionic Breeze works well with pet dander. It should work with bird dander too.

Thanks GM, I have been considering it for awhile now. I may have to order a couple of them, one for the bird room and one for here in my den since this is now the dogs hangout.
