Does anyone have an outdoor aviary where they let their birds stay in warm weather? If so can you tell us about it. Or better yet post some pics.

I would like to build one for my birds for the summer months and am looking for plans.

The only dumb question is the one that goes UNASKED!!!!

I always wanted one, built like a greenhouse with live plants and trees and even a little brook running through it and all kinds of tropical birds. Somehow they always seem to look better when they are exposed to sunlight! Maybe that dream will occur when I get land of my own, but definitely not now.

we had one at our old place (just moved) and it was basicly a rack that held 3x3x12 flights. one end was covered with plastic and this was the end with nestboxes and feedin stations. in the rain they could go out for a bath or go under cover. they really looked great in the summer. and the cages would slide out of the rack so in the winter we just carry them into our building and hang them from the ceiling. (we live where there is snow) most yrs we left our tiels outside until oct.

Bali do you have any pics of your old set up? I would be interested in how you had the cages set in so that you could pull the birds in during the colder months.

Over on the breeders corner they were discussing a mobile trailer with kennels attached for small dogs. Well someone sent me a pic. I dont know that I would use it for small dogs but it looks ideal for birds.

I don't have pics but the picture below is kind of similar in that the cages sit inside a frame and one part is covered- one whole end was slightly larger (a frame around a frame if you will) and the outer frame had plywood and tarps for shade on top and clear plastic on the sides with a large tarp over the end. the clear plastic extended about 4 ft so the birds could get out of the wind and rain but still be able to see out and this unit sat under some large trees so more shade.
the cages themselves just sit on the rack and can be pulled out at the end of the season and slid back in when spring comes. so the birds stay right in the cage and you have to catch them up (that was never a treat as the cages are so long- no nets reach)
