Hi, i am not a bird owner, i had a pair of parakeets when i was younger and loved them and i am interested in getting a different type of bird, but i really don't want a noisy bird due to the fact that i have an infant, is there any type of bird that is quiet? i don't mean one that never makes noise, just one that isnt as loud as lets say a parrot, does anyone have any ideas?
You might try a dove, there are several nice species available now days. Diamond doves are small like parakeets and dont require to large a cage. I have a pair of them myself and I love the cooing noises they make.
The only dumb question is the one that goes UNASKED!!!!

Dove huh, that sounds nice, i actually never though about that, i am not in the active process of buying a bird, now is not the time, but i would in the future, i was just wondering if there were any birds out there that would fit me. Thanks!
If you like the larger bird, the Maximillian Pionus is not a noisy bird. They are a little harder to find, but are very sweet and make noise, but rarely ever screech or scream....

you could also try the african species or finches/ canaries. the africans (greys, senegals, meyers, redbellies) really are fairly quiet but do talk- they don't tend to sound off like the larger parrots. finches and canaries have sweet songs. i'v had my birds longer then I have had children- the noise doesn't bother my children unless the macaws and cockatoos get going.
