Hi I recently found a Gopher tortoise in my barn ( south GA) it is in the process of being built and I didn't want the little thing to be stepped on or eaten by the dogs, so I took it in and bought it some food a lamp, light and a 10 gal tank, I filled it about 3 in deep with sand and put a few rocks some grass, leaves, food, water, and a small hiding place. Its very small, only about 2.5-3in long. It seems to have problems keeping its eyes open and doesn't eat any, but I think its digestive system will pick up since its under a lamp now. Can anyone give me any help with feeding and watering it(how much do normal tortosies eat and drink) or any diseases it may have???? ANY INFORMATION IS GREATFULLY APPRECIATED!!!!!! THANKS SOOO MUCH!
I have no clue other than to suggest you do a search on yahoo? HOpe he does okay!

fresh vegetables would be good. Lettuce and tomatoes are what i've had the best luck with. Also, sometimes apples. You need to be aware that once you bring this animal in from the wild and let become accustomed to BEING fed, the odds of it surviving back out in the wild are very slim. Just be sure to know that it will become very expensive, and you will need quite a bit larger aquarium than that. probably at LEAST a 50 gallon breeder. It might be best to take it to a rescue, or be positive that youll be able to give it everything it needs to have.
