i'm having trouble deciding on which fish to put together in my community tank. i'm new to tropical freshwater and have a 250litre (60 gallon) tank. there is plenty of info on community fish but i want to know which ones can ALL go together. just as i think i have decided upon a good community setup i read something that says this fish can't go with that one, or that this is not a good beginner fish etc. i'd very much appreciate anyones thoughts on what is a good mix of fish for the beginner.

Joeblow, apart from having a laughably poor grasp on the English language, as evidenced by your "fiveyearoldesque" sentence, your pointless and unamusing comment serves only to indicate that your probably best exercising your E grade wit in the protective confines of an anonymous chat forum.

So to get this post a little back on track...Some suggestions for starter fish are white clouds, zebra danios, rosy barbs, and a few other small fish near that species of fish. One fish that people commonly have a missconseption about is Neon Tetras. For some reason, people always seem to think that they're great, small starter fish. THEY'RE NOT! This species is VERY sensitive to it's surroundings and nitrogen levels. This is a type of fish for the slightly more advanced, or for a more advanced aquarium. Hope this helps.

Adrianne,

Thankyou very much for your helpful entry. i was beginning to lose faith in sites such as this, in light of the pointless entries you see above and really appreciate someone sharing some actual knowledge. i am almost at the buy fish stage and will definately include some of the fish you suggested. Azz

Livebearers are great newbie fish..Mollies, Guppies etc. I started my first tank with Mollies and they are still doing well. If you are just setting up a new tank you have to cycle it to build a healthy bacterial colony or you will end up with lots of dead fish. You can do this by adding feeder goldfish to your tank..they will provide ammonia (urine) that will in turn feed the healthy bacteria that is needed to keep the water healthy. You can ask your fish store to give you some seasoned gravel out of one of their established tanks to "seed" your new tank with bacteria for quicker results. Good luck!

I found these easy as well. Most of the better pet stores have fish that go well together all marked by the same colored dot sticker, or the same colored name tags on the front of the tanks. If you ask the attendant, they can explain their system. I think our shops here use green for very friendly fish, and red for fish that are very aggressive, etc, but you should ask the shop attendant at your shop.

Some people are so worthless that even their sh!t is worth more than they are! THINK ABOUT IT... at least their sh!t can be used for fertilizer.

Actually, Neon Tetra Disease can be brought into your tank by fish breeds other than the Neon Tetra. The disease is named after this breed of fish simply because it is the first fish it was found in.
