you're number one reason for this is because it's a sin and against god....so why aren't you all going crazy trying to make premarital sex against the law? it's just as much of a sin as homosexuality, and happening on a MUCH larger scale...so why not work on that first???
just another example of how you can NOT legislate "morals"...
its not apples and oranges...it's a sin...a sin is a sin is a sin, your 'god' hates them all, no matter what it is...he hates a little white lie equally as much as he hates someone stealing a car...so why aren't you all going crazy over premarital sex?
I have to say that I do agree with you, GW. That's a great point, and a great question. And you're also right about a sin being a sin being a sin.
It would be a sin for me to steal Bog's apples and oranges, and it would be just as much of a sin to be a murderess. So in that, I'll agree.
I would like to point out to you that you CAN legislate morality, for you see, it's already been done. It is illegal in most states to commit sodomy. There are no laws about premarital sex as far as I know.
JMHO
Edited to ask---don't you think that to commit murder is a morality issue too? I guess I do. Is it immoral to kill? Yes. So, many of our laws ARE morality issues. Stealing, lying(perjury), even if you cheat in Las Vegas, you get arrested.lol
And alot of people are speaking out about premarital sex--the whole abstinence issue with schools educating children about sex.-- So it's out there, just not in the forefront since it wasn't something that was voted on recently.
to me, murder isn't about morals, its about rights...it is your RIGHT not to be killed lol...there are somethings that are 'god given rights' such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of hapiness...and other things that are 'morals' (homosexuality, premarital sex, etc.)...the difference is that when rights are violated, someone or something is hurt...when 'morals' are 'violated', its often someone's religious views that are being stepped on....does that make any sense?
what about divorce? isn't that a sin? why isn't there an amendment to the constitution saying no divorce, especially since marriage is now deemed as a 'sacred' union and that's why gays can't have it?
