It's a good idea to learn Spanish if you are interested in it at all or just to be better qualified in the job market. Lots of high paying jobs do require that you be bilingual. It would also help you to know when someone is talking about you (grin).

I don't think in the years to come, speaking spanish will be a requirement. Speaking English will be the requirement. It should be now, too bad it isn't.

You know I've often wondered that same thing.
If I were going to Italy, I would certainly attempt to learn Italian. The same if I were going to France.
Why do Mexican people feel that we should try learning Spanish for their benefit? Could it be because they are simply too lazy to put out the effort to learn?
I've often pondered that thought.
I am not being prejudiced here, but if I were Mexican and couldn't speak English, but wanted to live in America where the national language is English, I would put out my best effort and learn it. I certainly wouldn't be expecting the American people to learn my language to accomodate me.
That does sound a bit conceited, now doesn't it? (for the non-conformists, not us)

Miss Cleo, the Mexican people entering into the US are not the one telling us we must learn to speak Spanish...It is our own government that is requiring this...The majority of Spanish speaking people in my area & there are alot, do learn our language, but it takes time as with anything else...The English language is the most difficult language to learn in the world...It seems easy to us because it is our native language...But in reality, it is very hard...Now I am not saying that we should have learn theirs, because if I go to a foreign country, I certainly don't expect them to require their people to know my native tongue...But the blame for why we as Americans who speak English should learn a foreign language belongs to our open policy of accepting foreigner & not requirering them to learn the language before becoming a citizen or collecting benefits we, the non Spanish speaking taxpayer are providing...We have other cultures, German, Italian, ect...They all seem to be able to learn the language of the US...Why is our government requirering US to learn the Spanish language...Makes you wonder, don't it????

I will learn to speak spanish when I decide to go to mexico or spain. I feel if you enter into this country English Language should be taught so "THEY" can understand us.... this should be the main requirement to enter our country!
