I am gay and even I voted NO. I think there should be a different type of way for gays to legalize their commitments to each other. NOT Marriage. Like I said in a different post. A Civil Union or what is already available to Gays whether they realize it or not is to go to court and do a Domestic Partnership which protects their partners in the case of death from family members of the deceased from coming in and taking everything. That is one of the issues I worry about, what will my family take away from Paul should I die.

A will might work, any blood relative could challenge the legitimacy of a will that the main beneficary is not a blood relative. And in my family that is possible.

you know how you go thu life 'hearing things' I have always heard that a will could not be 'broken' if you left something to each party like say $1.00 that if those parties were named and left something then they were not left out of your will and had no grounds for complaint----but when it comes to money it is strange what extent some will go to --to get it---

Yes I knew about the 1.00 dollar thing, But like I said death has a funny way of bringing greed out in some folks. Have seen it too many times now. Have seen many of my friends who lost their partners have to start all over because family of the deceased came in and claimed EVERYTHING in the house.

The only other way I know of around this is for a gay couple to start completely fresh and when it comes to the home make sure BOTH parties are named on the paperwork regarding the house and its contents. But even in a situation like that the family of one member can come in and claim half and force the sale of everything.

I dont believe it should even be a question as to weither or not gay people can marry. Marriage is about LOVE and COMMITMENT, not if your gay, black or white, American or foreign. I think its utterly ridiculous that this topic is being fought over so much. There are more important issues that need immediate attention, i.e the homeless and getting our troops back home SAFELY.

Excuse me but you already have "gay couples" they are the folks seeking some way of legally being bound to one another, just as straight couples do. What is the benefit of a straight marriage BESIDES procreation. Dont use that excuse because Gay folks can and do procreate as well. They just go about it differently than straight folks.

I don't see the act of marriage as a needing to be a means for procreation. Marriage is a commitment and means a lot more to a lot of us than just procreation. Have you noticed how many childless couples there are these days?

Marriage to a lot of people means security, comfort, love, etc. It can mean a lot besides having babies. I get so sick of people who are narrow minded. We all know you don't need a marriage or a commitment to have children, now don't we?

And that is the SAME security, comfort, love, etc. That gay/lesbians are looking for in their ability to be able to Legally join with their partners.

The only reason most folks are so against gay marriages is because a marriage is by thier definition between a man and a woman for the purpose of starting a FAMILY. Well we all know there are different types of families out there too now dont we???

How true. I have am single, have a daughter, and this daughter was not from marriage as I never intend to get married. Procreation is just an excuse for narrow mined people to use when they can not rightly deny the love and commitment between two people. Yes, TWO PEOPLE, no where does it say a man and a woman.

Does anyone have any "mature" non bashing comments to ad to this thread? Folks can have an opinion that differs without someone posting comments like the 2 above this post. If everyone thought the same way this would be a VERY BORING world.

I dont normally post over here, but...

Why should gay people not have the same rights as a str8 person? No matter what your color, ethnicity, religion or sexual prefrence you are no less a person then anyone else. I am suprised honestly that we have continued to deny gay people their rights. You would have thought when we became intelligent enough to realize woman should be able to vote that the rest of the stuff would have been simple.
