Why do I always rewrite the Book of Job??
Two weeks ago I got a second job to help with the bills. HA HA. I worked the week before Thanksgiving week at both jobs - fine - wasn't too bad - I could handle this - between the two jobs I was only working 45 - 50 hours a week. Then Thanksgiving week. Monday I worked at the restaurant only - 5 to 10:15PM. Tuesday morning I got a call from a girl who used to work at there, asking if the place had burned down. It was fine when I left the night before. I told her I'd drive over and see and then call her back - well, the place had burned. I had to work 12Noon to 6PM at the other job and then Wednesday, too. Thursday and Friday I was off. Worked Saturday, Sunday, and got called in Monday. Went to go to the store after getting home, and the car wouldn't start. Checked all the wires on the battery, couldn't find my voltage tester, so I could only check the fluid levels and the battery terminals. Optimistically I hoped it would start in the morning - it didn't - called a friend - took the battery to where I got it - but they were out test driving - got taken to work - got picked up at work - took the battery to another dealer - it was dead - got it replaced. Police showed up about the restaurant burning - seems the money bags were missing and they're talking arson to cover the burglery. Put the battery in the car - wires don't look right on the back of the alternator - they've been pulled off - put them back - and cross fingers - car starts!! Go to work and home - but the dash lights are on real faint - stop at the mechanic who changed the engine last month - checks the wires - says it looks fine. Today go to pick up my checks - come home - car won't start again. Battery dead - again!! Local Plymouth dealer wants $300 for an alternater - find one for $120 and arrange to get Monday off so It can be replaced. Total checks between the two places total $124. And the rent is due - not to mention the rest of the bills. Merry Christmas. -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- -~ Mimi -~-~ http://am-pugs.com -~-~ "When we stop learning we die." -~ -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- |

Oh man! AmPugs, I am sorry to hear about all those troubles. I do know how you feel. It happens like that to me and to everyone else I know. My mother used to say things happened in 3's. To me, they happen more like in 6's or dozens--when it rains, it pours.
The same with the vehicles--not one thing will break, but several. Go to fix something on the house and I end up having to fix 3 or 4 other things that I wasn't prepared for and have to go to town to get parts, etc. Drives me crazy and sometimes I feel like I've been cursed by someone. Some weeks it never ends. Guess that's why I get so crabby on here. I'm not familar with the book of Job and I've heard you mention it a few times...can you give me a short, condensed version please? Murphy's Law is what I call it. [This message was edited by mr pit bull on Fri December 05 2003 at 03:19 PM.] |

I'm sorry to hear about all the problems that have come your way, AmPugs. I do know exactly how you feel though. It happens to me a lot.
Some days I just feel like I shouldn't have gotten out of bed. I know this is bad, but I'll just sit down and have myself a good ole pity party and a good cry and then I can get up and go on. I guess it's a woman thing (sorry mr pitt), but somehow (albeit small) it helps me to feel better. For the alternator thing--disconnect the battery when you park the car (at home or work), then it won't run it down anymore--that is if you don't already do that. Only tip I can think of. |

I'm in the same boat, AmPugs in a way. I will pray for you too though and I know things will get better for all of us.
I have the murphy's law gene instilled in me I think, mr pb...hahaha.....but I try not to think about it. AmPugs, have you ever thought about listing things on ebay auctions or yahoo? I am thinking about it. I always shop on there and I thought I might try my hand at that for a while. I'm limited on what I can do job-wise, but I think I'll give the auctioning thing a shot. It gives me a good reason to clean out the closets, anyway. It's a small world, after all. |

mr pit bull - The Book of Job [rhymes with robe] is where God and the Devil make a bet about whether Job will stay pious if God takes everything away from him - money, land, good family, health, everything. Over the years God takes everything from him - and he still remains pious. The Devil conceeds, and God gives him everything back. [That's the way God works a lot of the time in the Old Testament.]
It's another way of saying the I live by Murphy's Law = If anything CAN go wrong, it WILL. I use little sayings like that a lot. Zena - The alternator is dead - the car is running on the battery - there isn't a power drain - I checked for that - I just hope it's the alternator and not the alternator relay - they would test the same. [I've found my tester] And when we've had trouble with the electric stuff before the fuel pump relay usually quits, too - and that's another $100 - 'cause my supplier is out of them and can't get one in. If it wasn't 25 miles to work, I think I'd go back to driving a buggy - a lot less can break - and it's usually easier to fix. Himmi - Thank you for your prayers, I appreciate it. CindyLu - I don't know what I could sell on eBay. Most of what I make is either too delicate to ship [pine cone Christmas Trees and Wreaths], or way too heavy [the furnature I make out of ammo crates - this computer desk is in the vecinity of 150 to 200 pounds.] Most of my 'skills' are in the repair category. I'm a decent plumber, electrictian, phone lines, gas lines, carpenter [who doesn't know how to use very many power tools - all by hand], landescaper, stone mason, and I can run a pretty decent fence - electric, barbed, or woven - BUT this is NOT a part of the country that listens when a female applies for a job like that. BUT I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks ALL. -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- -~ Mimi -~-~ http://am-pugs.com -~-~ "When we stop learning we die." -~ -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- |

You are very talented AmPugs. It's nice to have so many skills. I don't have any of those.
What a lot of people on Ebay do is buy stuff cheap and then resell it on the auctions. We have some stuff we bought a while back that I'm going to list. Now I have no idea if it will sell or not, but it's worth a try. I think you would have to have a lot of stuff to make any real money on ebay though and a great supplier. If I think of anything for you, I'll let you know. I'll keep you in my prayers and I know things will get better. Thank you for explaining the book of Job--you explained it very well. I have one thought--since you make furniture, maybe you could put it on consignment at a couple of shops. Maybe only 1 or 2 pieces and leave some cards with your name and # for special orders...people around here like handmade wooden furniture a lot and no one hardly does it. I did see once on ebay, somebody was selling cedar beds and they were way expensive and shipping was in the $200 range. Now I don't know if they sold, but since I'll be around there, I'll look up furniture and let you know if anything is selling. People "seem" to buy anything online these days. It's a small world, after all. |

I had to laugh when I saw this for sale on Ebay---thought you might enjoy it----it is made out of wood.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2363584737&category=3196 If you decide to check out the furniture on ebay, just go to the search box and type in furniture and then look under the part that says bids and you can see what people are actually selling. A lot of stuff doesn't sell, so I always check the bids. It's a small world, after all. |

It is a small world. I actually know where the town is that that person lives in. It is along what I swear is the only straight road in the entire state of PA - PA Rt 115 on Effort Mtn.
I've never been to eBay other than a couple links on here. I wouldn't know where to begin. I can't transport the stuff I make - it won't fit in the car, and I don't have a truck. I'm sorry I'm not too bushy-tailed tonight - I ve got a cold/flu/bronchitis/pneumonia - who knows - anyway my temp is 100.4 and I'm a little fuzzy around the edges. Think I'll turn in. Have to get the car fixed in the AM. -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- -~ Mimi -~-~ http://am-pugs.com -~-~ "When we stop learning we die." -~ -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- |

Did you get your car fixed up okay?

Yep, a new alternator. Doesn't look like it took anything else with it this time - but still $150 that I really didn't need to spend on the car.
Thank you for asking. -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- -~ Mimi -~-~ http://am-pugs.com -~-~ "When we stop learning we die." -~ -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- |

At least the car is fixed--that's one less trouble to deal with. I do understand how you feel about having to spend the extra $ on the car. Car repairs are always a bummer to me too.
I'm not mechanically inclined at all. |
