Maybe it is because my mother had me in all of those "little lady clubs" like Jr.Garden Club; but litterers make me so angry. So many times I see adults and children toss out food, wrappers, cigarette butts, etc. All of that is litter!!!
I have heard people say, "Oh the animals will eat that or use it for a nest." Are these people crazy????? What animals are going to eat the food - the ones that get killed on the road trying to eat it?????????
Cigarette butts really drive me nuts. Every day I see smokers toss the butts out of the window. I know which "butt" I would like to toss out to pick up litter off the road.
I know I am a little fanatical, but I do blow my horn every time I see someone toss litter. I know there are toll free litter numbers, but who can drive, take a tag number, and report a litterer?
I agree. it makes me angry too. Some people could care less if you even see them litter. One time I was parked at my Doctors office, sitting in my car as I was early. I looked up to see the Doctors nurse sitting in her car in front of me. She was smoking. She was early for work I guess, or on a break. Well several minutes later she opened her car door and dumped her ashtray right there on the parking lot pavement! I was just shocked! Everytime I went to the Doctor and saw her there working, all I could do it think about what I had seen her do!
Oh yeah, I really hate those cigarette butts. I hate it when people leave them in my yard and I guess I'm fanatical too about them and litter out the car windows. We spend lots of money each year for people to pick up that litter and there are enough trash cans around to wait until you can get to one. Back to the cigarette butts, my Father is the worst...he smokes em all up and puts them in his truck ashtray and then he dumps them right out in his own driveway or anybody else's he happens to be in. Very irritating and it looks nasty. In his own driveway, he's not 10 feet from the outside trashcan. It's too bad we can't make every litterer get out and pick up trash and cigarette buts for a whole day--that would be a nice punishment for them...

Even Though i am a smoker i TOTALLY agree with you. There was a story a few years ago where someone threw out a smoke out there window and the wind took it and it landed in a car. Well, the car caught on fire and killed a lady and her 3 children. so, to this day i will NEVER throw anything out the window! Maybe if peopl knew about that horrible accident they wouldnt throw anything out the window anymore!

I have a friend that will throw out anything small..she gets mad at people for throwing out big amounts of trash, like a bag of it, but thinks "Well, I'm only throwing out a packet of ketchup or a cigarette, so that's okay."

OK I will admit it I was a big time litterbug. Until I was in college that is. I was in this club called PBL. Also a class that we had to do things to get points. One day I signed up for something that earned me the last 100 points I needed for that A. It was cleaning up the garbage on a roadway that or college had adopted through the adopt a highway program. If we really want to stop this litter epidemic we need to take these young kids out there to do this just one afternoon believe me they will think twice before they litter again.
that is a good idea, lonely lady.... Another thing is that people who get a ticket for littering should have to do 50 or 100 hours of community service, in addition to the fine...
