Is it really weird to have an ocd about collecting seeds of every plant you can get? I collect hay seeds, dandilion seeds, catnip ect., ect. Is this normal? (Can't think of any good words to call this.)

First, one would have to be able to define Normal.
hahaha just kidding. I do think it's normal if you like to grow things or just for collecting. Some people collect odd stuff and they go to the extremes to get it. Some people are (and forgive the word) pack rats and they collect everything. I haven't ever really collected anything. I make the room into a nautical room and put all nautical stuff in there and then I tire of it and make it into a western room and then i tire of it and make it into something else, that's my decorating technique, but I do have to collect the stuff to fix it up with. I generally get rid of it when I'm tired of it though and move onto something else. As for things, I don't really collect any certain thing. I tried stamps, coins, figurines, and they all became a little dull to me. {I have an attention span of about 15 seconds on a good day. I guess I went off on a tangent here, slow Sunday for me. Oops!! I think you are Normal kerack and it's nice to have something that keeps your interest. You said it was an ocd..is it really or just something you really like to do? Obsessive, compulsive disorder is just that---overpowering and it rules your life. It's a small world, after all. |

I know someone who will never buy anything in odd numbers either. I think it's just "ODD".

Gee, I have a fan who wants to be me. Flattering.
quote: I used to do that too. I would count out syllables on my fingers when I was younger. Gee, i never knew it was an obsessive compulsive thing. I always just thought it was my nerves. "The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue." |

It probably was, obsessive complusions often come about as a calming mechanism. I have a bit of OCD myself.. although with me, at my age, it's more of a control issue and needing to maintain things in a certain "orderly" fashion. |

I'm a neat freak. I cannot stand to wake up in the morning with any dirty dishes (not even one glass) and can't stand to have anything left on my coffee table. I'm obsessive about cleaning, but what's worse is that I don't want anyone to "mess up" what I worked so hard to clean. Kind of impossible to ask with a husband and three inside dogs.

Lol. Alright out comes more of my ocd's. I have a problem with walking on sidewalks, I have to walk two steps on each little square, and I normally do some weird crap with my fingers, like, I'll rub my index finger with my thumb, then I have to do it to all the other ones...

Well, in the movie, Jack has a thing about not being able to eat with metal silverware--it must be plastic at all times. He has a thing about a certain restaurant and will only sit at a certain table and will only let a certain waitress attend to his order.
He had to lock his front door a certain amount of times. He had to use a new bar of soap every time he washed his hands. Jack couldn't step on a crack in the sidewalk either and I can't remember what all else. It's worth renting because the story itself is very good and it does have a happy ending, but Jack goes thru a heck of a lot to start to understand himself. |

I watched that movie a couple of times. My husband actually bought it. If we lived closer, I'd let you borrow it, Kerack. It's a good movie. Lots of different controversial stuff in it, I'd say "people with issues". It has funny parts and sad parts and some parts just make you think about your life. I think it's an excellent movie. Helen Hunt is in it also.
It's a small world, after all. |

Schizophrenia
By Mayo Clinic staff Overview Article sections: Overview Signs and Symptoms Causes When to Seek Medical Advice Screening and Diagnosis Treatment Coping Skills Schizophrenia is often a chronic and debilitating mental illness. The disease can cause you to withdraw from the people and activities in the world around you and retreat into a world of delusions. Schizophrenia is a debilitating kind of psychosis, which is an impairment of thinking in which your interpretation of reality can be severely abnormal. Psychosis is a symptom of a disordered brain. Schizophrenia affects approximately 1 percent of the population worldwide, including more than 2 million Americans. It occurs equally in men and women. The disorder is rare in children. There's often no cure for the illness, but working closely with your doctor and other mental health professionals, you can often successfully manage schizophrenia — especially when an early diagnosis occurs. Fortunately, newer medications are making this poorly understood disorder more manageable than ever before. |

Like someone else posted I used to be a neat freak. I was obsessed with perfection - schoolwork, penmanship, my room, clothes, appearance, etc. It continued into my young adult years. If a guest in our home moved a magazine, my mind would be so busy thinking about the "out of place" magazine that I had trouble thinking about the conversation.
I married an only child - who is a long way from a perfectionist and the children came along, I realized that I was in a losing battle. It didn't take long for me to give up my compulsions. It was either give in or go crazy. I do find myself getting compulsive at times, but not even close to my younger years. As my mind goes, so go my compulsive behaviors! I'm like you Rayna, over time things seem to matter less about if they are neat or look just right. I'm happy to get the house cleaned these days...haha!!

I also cant stand odd numbers. I have to chew food the same amount of times on each side of my mouth. And I have to have an even amount of food! If not I throw out the last one, or split it in half, lol.It drives me nuts, but yet I still do it. I also have to walk 2 steps per side walk square!! I'm sure I look like a goon walking down the street looking at my feet and counting to myself!
