Hi Dragonfly: I live in Texas and the speed limit is 70 in the daytime and at night, it's 65. Hwy 90. Some parts,it's a straight 70 mph day or night and then others there is a restriction on 18-wheelers and they have to drive 5 miles slower than regular vehicles. We do have some regular roads and the speed limit on them ranges between 55-65, depending on the area. For the most part, the major highways are 70, though. I thought it was the same everywhere, but I haven't done much traveling lately. What is it where you live?

I drove through Texas on I 40, and I noticed the night/day speed limit. I was like "You guys are nuts." LOL. Back in California, the highway is 55, the interstates are 65. Here in NC, the highways are 55, but on Hwy 70, the speed limit turns 70 for about 20 miles.

During my recent trip from SC through NC, Virginia, West Virginia and PA, the interstate speed limits were 70, with exceptions for work areas.
I also noticed that the more courteous drivers were out of the Carolinas. I hate to say it because I was born here. But, those SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT signs are still posted and people move over when they see you coming up behind. In the Carolinas most drivers will keep you hemmed in for miles, merely looking in the rear view mirror from time to time - as though to say, "I know you want to pass, but I was here first, find another way around me."
for me it's the inconsiderate driver, regardless of how they are being inconsiderate
and the careless driver. they should park instead of being careless
the law just got passed where i live that cell phones are outlawed while driving unless it's a hands free unit. that's better, but what they fail to realize is that the guy argueing on his cell phone, even tho it's talk free, he can't drive right either because he's too busy argueing and being upset and then he gets hostile with other drivers because of his conversation
StarDust, isn't that statement rather biased? If you are lucky enough to live into old age as opposed to dying young, your viewpoint will likely change.
I agree that some laws need to be put into effect to screen drivers. I am not exactly sure what guidelines could be used. But, statistics show that aged drivers and inexperienced drivers have more accidents.
it might help if they made older folks take an actual driving test every couple of years just to make sure they can judge their distances correctly. I know most of us will have to cross that bridge one day, but if I was older and determined to drive my car, I wouldn't mind having to prove it the the DMV every so often. Goes for me now too, but when you are older, you really don't see as well and my grandmother has to use a big cushion to see over the steering wheel. I won't get into how bad she drives, but she really shouldn't be and out of her 9 kids and something like 51 grandkids and i don't know how many great grand kids, none of us have the guts to say a word to her. But i do worry about her constantly and try to drive her when she will let me. It's too bad we have to age gracefully.....I myself, would much rather stay young.
Drivers in the Carolinas make me so frustrated and I agree with the previous post about Carolinians. I'm originally from Atlanta and we all drive crazy there, but at least you move over if you know someone's gotta get around you. In NC people do exactly what was said in the previous post...they'll notice your behind them but keep driving, sometimes pass a big tractor trailer on a four lane (two each side) interstate and basically go the same speed as the truck. Anyway, I don't think people are aware of right lane slower drivers.
IMHO...there is no "cause" for road rage...only excuses that the driver uses for flying into such a rage. The real cause of road rage lies with the "rager" not the "ragee"...heaven help the poor soul who gets in the way of an angry driver when he/she is determined to settle an issue within themselves.....
