One of my friends is obsessed with dirt...washing out plates and bowls if they fall on the floor(or throwing them away) and she has everyone take off shoes before coming into her house...even repairmen...

Joe, does her name begin with a C? She sounds like one of my best friends. This person is fanatical.

She gets VERY upset if someone sits on her desk at work. She starts spraying it with Lysol. After washing her hands in a public restroom, she uses a piece of paper towel to open the door to go out. When at all possible she does not use a bathroom away from home. If she orders from somewhere that she can see into the cooking area, she watches EVERY move that they make. If she sees something that looks the least bit out of line, she will refuse the food. Heaven help us if we sneeze or cough around her (no matter how discreetly or cover up).

We keep dishes in our classroom for cooking activities with the students. Even though they were washed and put up the day before, she will wash them again when we do the activity!!

Once I took some homemade fudge to work for some co-workers. But, I took her a box of store purchased candy. She asked why. I told her that I had listened to her talk about problems eating from a home with inside pets. I have a cat & dog in my house, though they don't come into the kitchen when I am cooking for others. I think it made her take a double take.

By the way, your use of the word dirt would be approved of greatly by a Soil Conservationist that I just met. He does not like to hear the word dirt used in reference to the earth. He said that plants grow from soil - not dirt. He said that dirt is misplaced soil (behind the ear, on the clothes, etc).

I thought that was cute. If that is your field, I guess there is a difference.
