Well, I have to say that does work. Red Face Some others for me are swimming or a short run followed by a warm shower. Sometimes a very cool bedroom, a warm shower and some aspirin will put me to sleep. I also use a "sock buddy" to warm the bed. It is just an tube sock filled with rice (opening sewn together), which is heated in the microwave. I use it alot for sinus headaches.

I like the tube sock idea. I think my brain comes to life when it's time for my body to go to sleep. I think I've tried just about everything. A lot of the nice suggestions actually wake me up instead of making me sleep. (grin)haha!! what can I say? Thanks for the posts.

I know you asked this a while ago, but I figured I'd tell you what I do anyway. I just read until I fall asleep. I usually don't even turn out the light.
That is the only place I read paperbacks. I use a paperclip as a marker so I don't loose my place. It has been years since I was able to just go to bed and go to sleep. Used to be up and down all night. That's why I started reading - so I wouldn't disturb anyone. Started reading most of the book - now I'm lucky if I get two pages read.

A Mother's Secret To A Good Night's Sleep

How is a mother supposed to get a good night's sleep? The
full-time job, the cooking, the cleaning... the list goes
on forever.

Many mothers have turned to Extra Strength Sleep EZ for help.
Known as the most effective sleep aid available, the secret
to this exclusive formula is a blend of Valerian Root & St.
John's Wort that helps to relax the central nervous system,
promote feelings of calm, and decrease levels of anxiety and
stress -- giving you a good night's sleep.

Counter-intuitive as this may sound, do as you would normally do to fall asleep, however instead, try to keep your eyes open for as long as you can.

Usually within 10 minutes or so, you will notice your eyes struggling to stay open and soon you will be asleep like a baby.

The eyelids are not exempt from the Law of Gravity.

Try it!

Not a cure but helps me when I have trouble sleeping all night. I stay up later but then I awake more tired. Also if during the day if I find myself just not being able to stay awake, I take a short nap the moment it hits me. I am a very light sleeper and usually when awoke either by a noise or just wake up it is hard for me to go back to sleep. These are just two things that have helped me get enough sleep. Staying up later but taking a nap when the moment hite me. Yes, I stop whatever I am doing and just crash.....

If I get tired during the day - I take a nap - I'm too old to just push on. I only sleep four or five hours at night anyway - if I don't take a nap it is harder for me to sleep at night - doesn't make sense, but that's how it works for me.

I can't sleep once or twice a week and that has been my life for years and years now. I usually get up and write some poetry or pay bills or even wash dishes if I have any energy at all. I ususally don't have any energy though. I read at times, but then I get so involved in what I'm reading, I want to finish the book.

This sounds kinda off, but what really has worked for me is watching the movie "Judge Dredd" and it knocks me out every time. Now someone has borrowed my video, so I found myself up late last night and ran across this forum.

What I'm trying to say is that if you can't sleep and can't find a solution, come on the pc and I just might be here and I will talk to you. That might help. If we don't get along, at least we won't bother anyone else. ? I think it is worth a try, unless you have found a good solution, and if you have, please be charitable and pass it on.

Have you considered seeking professional help from a spec? I know it sounds trite when a person says "I can't sleep" but we now know insomnia has a lot to do with our health or lack of it. If insomnia affects any part of your waking life, it is a problem to be addressed. Okay, office is closed! LOL

Techniques you've probably already tried
but are still worth trying again.

See a Doctor
Take a Warm Bath
Get a Massage
Listen to Music
Drink Warm Milk
Drink Herb Tea
Eat a Bedtime Snack
Avoid Caffeine, Alcohol and Tobacco
Sleep in a Well-Ventilated Room
Sleep on a Good Firm Bed
Sleep on Your Back
Get Some Physical Exercise During the Day
Keep Regular Bedtime Hours
If You Can't Sleep, Get Up
Don't Sleep In
Get Up Earlier in the Morning
Keep Your Bed a Place for Sleep
Avoid Naps
Avoid Illuminated Bedroom Clocks
Of course there's the standard technique
that everyone knows (although it never
worked for us)
Counting Sheep
And some techniques you probably
haven't seen before

Sleep With Your Head Facing North
Don't Watch TV or Read Before Going to Bed
Toe Wiggling
Stomach Rub
Progressive Relaxation
Deep Breathing
Visualize Something Peaceful
Visualize Something Boring
Imagine It's Time to Get Up
Quiet Ears

Good luck! Have a pleasant sleep!

I do sleep good between 6:00 a.m and 8:00 a.m.So I hope you will find some kind off help or sleep whatever comes first.

My best solution I've found is snuggling up with my puppy. She starts snoring (yep, a pup that snores) and she looks so sweet and comfy, I just fall right asleep.
Might not work for everyone, but it does for me on most nights. Smile
