That is good because I was worried. You are right. Case scenario: she would not be committed unless either one of two things happened: she voluntarily allowed herself to be committed or someone that felt she was a danger to herself would have to petition the court to have her committed.
Anyhow, that is beside the point since that is not what she even meant when she wrote that.

Bons I hate to be a wet blanket . but if just say if a cop came to her house and felt what she was saying was what we thought.that is that she wanted to harm herself they would not wait until they get petition the court to have her committed. that is why they have the 72 hour watch I mean the doctor then can decide if she is really wanting to harm herself. But then again now that we know it was a attention ploy I really don't think we need to worry about it. But I am glad that you being a nurse felt as some did.
If the police were called out then yes they could technically make the call to take a person to an ER at a hospital where the person would be examined to determine if they are a danger to themselves. The court still has to be petitioned for commitment to a mental institution.
Having been an intake coordinator for a mental hospital in the 90's, I can tell you it is very involved.
