HI, My cat Thunder often comes home with rodents and such. Generally dead. Last year he came home with baby bunny's only weeks old. All were dead. It always broke my heart and I always gave him a good talking to.

Well last night I heard this odd cry. It almost sounded like one of the pups were in trouble. I think Scruffy and Tinkerbell were thinking the same as they both ran out the door and over to the house to check on the pups. I figured all was well when Scruffy came back moments later. About 5 mins after that I heard the noise again. I grabbed my flashlight and ran outside to find the source of the sound before it stopped again. On the other side of my pool I spotted my cat thunder with something hanging out of his mouth. Due to the sound it was making I thought it was a large frog. I noticed all the other cats near Thunder to. Well I was going to get what ever it was from Thunder and put it out of its misery if it was badly mauled or simply let it go if it wasn't mauled yet. Again I will state I thought it was just a frog.

Well to my surprise it was a baby bunny hanging from its back end out of Thunder's mouth. Oh my I felt the need to hurry and prayed it was not to badly hurt. I put my hand gently around the bunnies head and ordered Thunder to let go. He was growling at the other cats but he obeyed me and let go. I rushed into the house with this tiny creature while it was shaking so badly in my hands. I got into the house and noticed a hugh piece of fur pulled away from the bunnies back, but no puncture wounds thank God. I placed the bunny into a box and went to get a cage, which I cleaned and disinfected with bleach. I then went crawling around on the ground with a pair of scissors cutting grass to line the cage. I got the cage all together and placed the box that I had the bunny in, into the cage and filled it with the fresh cut grass to make it a nest.

Finally I check the sex of the bunny to find it was a little girl, she is about 8 - 10 weeks old. I put some ointment onto her back where the skin was gone and then put her into the cage for the night and prayed she would be alive in the morning.

She was most diffently alive and although she is still very afraid, she will be fine. I put in Rabbit food and water and a few strips of carrot peel. Here back looked good not infected and will heal nicely I believe. I will keep her and find her a name. When she is old enough to be on her own I will maybe let her free in the field again. We have tons of Rabbits in our fields. I am just hoping Thunder will leave the rest of the babies alone. Or at least bring them home alive like this one. I hate seeing hurt animals.

Any name suggestions?

I've never had any luck with the bunnies. Once traumatized, well..........I hope your efforts prove better than mine.

Some are here because they hope to make a difference, others like to roll around in the feces. You'll be able to "sniff them out" in no time. -DJ's Doxies,

I did not want to bring this news tonight, but she didn't make it through the second night. I think she had more physical damage then was visible or she was far more traumatized then I thought.

My granddaughter found her this morning. I have taught the kids that until a full week goes by don't get attached as any hurt wild animal could still die. So she handled it well. My oldest grandson just decided that we need to get a girl bunny for our other bunny to be friends with because this wee one didn't make it.

We did name her Suzy last night so she didn't die without a name.

TY PW,

Well I have been so busy with the end of the school year stuff I haven't had much time for the puter. So I figured I would jump on here for a quick moment and tell a happy story about a baby chick that was attacked by a Hawk through the cage.

The darn hawk that circles my house is damn determined and has killed two chicks on me. the mesh of the caging is a 3/4" X 3/4" wire. I never thought that they would be in danger in these cages. Well I was wrong. That hawk may not be able to reach in and pull the chicks out but it is able to get them if the poke there heads out. I have fixed that and placed barriers around the outside of the cage. However I did not get this done before the hawk had made one last attempt.

Some how the hawk was able to grab one chicks wing and broke it. My grandson brought the chick to me. I was at my wits end as I don't handle animals getting hurt or dying very well. In all honesty I did not hold much hope for this one. the last chick that the hawk attempted to get was literally pierced through the neck. I was able to stop the bleeding and got the chick to eat and it lasted a day but then was killed by the mom. : (

So this one was not going back to the Mom. I took the chick and put it in a box and watched it for a few hours. when I seen that it was attempting to eat I decided to give it a good look over. I used a bandaid to secure the wing to its side. After 24 hours and the chick was not only eating but drinking and peeping, I decided to make it a kind wing cast using the bandaid which was already there and cut it back a little. I then clipped the wing back to get some weight off of it. I took white wide medical tape and started from under the wind and up and over the outside and ran the tape across her back and under the other wing. I then left the chick alone for another day. Now she was getting to be very spunky even trying to flap her wings. I felt bad that she was alone so I grabbed another baby chick to keep her company. She wasn't filling her crop all the way so I started catching beatles for her. With crop full and a friend in with her she got better daily. As of today she is with two other chicks kept in a box in the house at night and a cage during the day. I have removed most of the tape and she only now has it on the one wing. She is holding the wing up herself. She will live and do very well I am happy to report.

Oh by the way her name is:
She who flies in circles!

I will try to post a picture soon as school ends and I have more time.
