Ok, July 20th. I adopted 2 Standard dachshunds from a show breeder. They are 5yrs old. I was told they were shown early on but never finished them. She was retiring from showing and she was rehoming these girls (the last 2)
I was approved to adopt them. I gave my referances and agreed to keep in contact. She adopted them to me UNALTERED which did not seem to bother me as i had no intentions of breeding. She made me sign a contract stating they would be spayed (no time limit) and must never be bred otherwise i pay her $700 per dog for full breeding right. This seemed a bit odd but i didnt care cuz i had NO intentions of breeding. She told me she would send me the vaccination record when her hubby returned (well im still waiting on those records) I noticed after i got the 2 home. The one girl had puffy milk bags. The women told me she had 1 litter and it was 2yrs ago. So i didnt think much about it. Then she started getting a bit bigger in the belly area. I thought cause i was feeding a differant feed and she was gainin a bit of weight. Then i noticed her bags droping more and found out they were producing milk!!! I started to worry she was pregnant! I called my vet about possible false pregnancy. He said to watch her for 2 weeks to see if the swelling of the bags go down and if they dont bring her in cause she more then likely preg. So i contacted the breeder, I asked her if she had a heat cycle recently or been exposed to any males. I addressed my concerns about her being preggy. She says our females do go through false pregnancys and she was in a kennel with females only. So it eased my mind a bit. But tonite i think i felt a puppy move in her belly!!! Do you think this breeder is trying to pull a scam to get 1400.00 from me? She hasnt said nothing about it, But how could she forget if the girls were in heat and say theres no way they were exposed to a boy if she is indeed preggy??? Any thoughts?

K&K...I have dachsie's and at this time, I have one that is showing milk and is not pregnant. She has only had one litter of 1 pup and I never bred her again, she is now 4 years old. Her last heat was 3 months ago and she was no where near a male.

She has the hanging appearance of a prego dog and she needs to see the vet for a medication that will "dry her up"

She's all fat looking, nesting and looking at me with loving eyes as if to say "I'm having 'da babies...duh!

Ever since I've owned dachsie's I've always had one that did the same thing, don't know why!

But, your issue is concerning as you don't know the dog and you can't be sure she's not in whelp, so take her to the vet and find out, if she's not pregnant, she has to be dried up or she'll possibly come down with eclampsia (milk fever)

If she is pregnant and this breeder tries to get you for more money, 63 days approx is the gestation period, just remember to count the days from when you picked her up from the breeder to the time the pups are born. That's why you need to see the vet, he's a good witness for you if she's prego.

Good luck!

Morning TH: Seems to me I make your day and your reason to post! It's nice to see I have a stalker.

So, what's up, used car business bad in your area?

Selling used cars, does not a "breeder make."

Keep trying to sell your old "junkers" and find a forum more suitable to your forte'.

Yokum! You never cease to amaze me, consistently exposing the "mental midget" you are.

Do come back when you have, if ever, some reason to be on this forum. headbang

Well, I have to accept that you are not PW as I was able to understand your post!

TH/DC/RR/who cares, they don't seem to have a life anyway.

Run to the computer before heading out to work, then running back to the 'puter after work, just to write nonsensicle posts that are always the same. So much for originality, a quality, TH does not possess!

She is entertaining though, regardless of her Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Wink edit: DC= Deepcreek, not Doxiechick!!

I find it very odd that this show breeder sold you these bitches unaltered and with no time frame for doing so, then offered you full breeding rights for more money. Responsible breeders do not do this.

Just because they show (if that's even true) it doesn't make them ethical or responsible. There are many breeders out there that sporadically show now and then, pick up a few ribbons here and there, to try to appear legit and to also fool puppy buyers by claiming their dogs are show quality so they can charge a premium price, when in reality their dogs are pet quality and they are nothing more than a byb putting on a show for their bottom line. Making $$$

You'd be surprised at how many are able to effectively "talk the talk". But upon closer inspection you'll easily see through it and realize they in no way "walk the walk", so to speak.

As soon as you are able to determine these girl(s) are not bred (if that is the case) you should have them spayed immediately.
