I wonder what they used for anaesthetic. With my cats, it is a breed specific issue that they get nothing but isofuorane gas. A bitch with a section should also be gassed for the safety of the pups. I don't know how many cardiac arrests I have heard of over the years, with injectable sedative/anaesthetics.

PT me the info, if you don't mind me posting it to Dane lists. This happened last year to a Dane person on the list, a Fawn litter. A person who had a Mantle with a false pregnancy turned up and the pups made it. A sad story with a good ending. I hope this turns out the same.
Does anyone know if there is a rule of thumb for amounts to feed a puppy according to weight?
For example, it has been found that kitten formulas are roughly equivalent in the kilcalories per milliliter. So the rule of thumb is to feed 24ml per 100g of body weight. That includes newborns, who I feed every two hours for a couple of days, and then every three hours for a few days, and eventually every four.

"My" rule of thumb is one cc less than their body weight in ounces the first couple of feedings, then one cc per ounce of body weight (so a 6oz puppy would get 6cc's of formula). Of course they should be weighed and adjusted accordingly..and as they grow I bump up the amount by a couple of cc's over body weight, depending on the puppy and circumstance. Ive not had an orphan litter (yet) so I am supplementing a large litter, usually twice a day, until I know everyone is nursing and getting enough, then I only supplement the smaller ones or ones that are not gaining weight like I want.
