Probably my favorite, for content, is Dogs in Review.

One of the columns is How Well Do You Know Sporting Dogs. They list several questions regarding the AKC breed standards, like a quiz...and the answers are at the bottom of the page.

Maybe it could be a new game/learning experience for us all.

So chime in with your answers...googling is allowed. I will start with a few interesting ones:

Again, this is for the Sporting Group! If the plural (breeds) are used it means there are more than one breed. If the singular vernacular is used, it pertains to just one breed.

1. Which breed is described as wickedly smart?

Curly Coated Retriever

2. Which breed is described as long, low, level and liver?
Sussex
3. Which breed has an otter tail?
Lab
4. Which breed standard describes tail carriage as expressing?
No idea. I'm going to guess... Pointer

5. Which breeds are docked to 40% of tail length?
GSP, Weim, GWP, Viz
Good Luck! And there are no prizes, unless the Moddy wants to kick in Omaha Steaks! However, I do have an extra can of creamed corn I can send???

OK lester.

I have gone and read every single breed standard of the Sporting group.

Nowhere do I find any description of a tail as "expressing".

Spill it.

This is where I was thrown off. I had no idea how "expressing" could be an adjective, which is implied in your question #4.

Had you said "expressing confidence", I would have realized when I read the Weimeraner standard that this is what you were referring to.

Bad lester. Trick question.

One simple word... and I was thinking "expressIVE." Mark Twain had a point. Wink Lightning vs. lightning bug - big difference. Got me to do a bit of research, though. Thanks, Les. Big Grin

Again, great! #15 has 3 answers, Pointer is not one. And you got one right in #13

k How is it that the pointer is not one? "From this point forward the muzzle is of good length, with the nasal bone so formed that the nose is slightly higher at the tip than the muzzle at the stop."
Well anyway now its time to look up the answers.

13. Which breeds allow the tail to either be docked of left natural? Welsh Springer Spaniel(The tail is generally docked and displays a lively action)., and field spaniel. I have to say that while the welsh does not say it has to be docked there for leaves the impression that it can be either or. the brittany does say in the standard docked or natural.
