Since I'm visiting the forum today I just thought I would share these two little guys with you all ... is there anything sweeter than a Chi puppy? (The answer of course is NO!)
Pistol is just as his name implies: a tiny little guy, so full of himself, codename: RUFFIAN! Fudgy is my sweet cuddly boy whose chunky little body is the BEST for snuggling. WHY OH WHY couldn't Fudgy be a girl!?!?! I have produced ONE female big enough to keep in the last approx. 1-1/2 years, it's just not fair!! **POUT**
And so, without further ado, here are "da boyz":
Pistol is my newest show hopeful, sired by Topper, who is also the sire to my very handsome Starbuck who will be making his show debut in Canada soon. Topper, who makes beautiful babies, is the boy that some BBC/Pluba forum "experts" (pronounced like IDIOTS) said was not worth keeping and should be placed in a pet home! LMBO, Riiiiiight! Of course these same "experts" said Velvet was a terrible quality Chihuahua and not good enough to breed, and she is Starbuck's dam and Fudgy's dam as well. She produced three litters before being retired, so far 4 out of 5 - and Fudgy hopes to make it 5 out of 6 - puppies of show quality conformation, one total pet puppy out of six. But, yeah, I should have listened to the "experts"! hahahaha!
All this to say ... if you have a dream and a goal of producing and showing beautiful dogs and as a newbie are getting a ration of crap from and being harassed and/or slandered and/or personally attacked by breeders esp. in your breed who THINK they know better about you and your dogs, don't let ANYONE - no matter how great they THINK they are - discourage you and take your dream away from you! Only YOU (and GOD) know the plans you have and where your heart lies and only YOU hold the key to reaching your breeding goals!
P.S. HAVE YOU HUGGED YOUR CHI (or other canine and/or feline companion) TODAY???

I've gotten to a point where I say what the Hell! Everyone seems to have their own opinions of what should be bred. As long as they don't look like the Taco Bell dog, I think most chihuahuas are beautiful. Your little "Pistol" looks soooo much like my Vegas!!!
Damn good Guitarist-loving girl!!

Yep, I think that's just it, TG ... so much of what a person likes and breeds for is OPINION (the standard leaves MUCH open to interpretation!) and as long as the person truly CARES FOR the breed and their dogs and breeds for happy, healthy, sound dogs that adhere to the conformation standard (which is definitely NOT the Taco Bell dog, ugh!) to each his own.
Unfortunately, there are a whole lot of breeders who don't fit that description and fall real short of that particular standard of duty ... now that does make me sad, and actually really mad esp. when it comes to those purposefully breeding painful and serious health/genetic issues that cause suffering (don't even get me started on that right now)!
Your little Vegas is a cutie. I am really hoping Pistol turns out as he goes back to a real nice old English show line that's hard to come by up close and produces really well with the U.S. lines I am working with so keeping my fingers crossed on the little guy!
Of course I would love to keep Fudgy too but I really just can't keep TWO more boys ... ummm, can I???? (Well, can I? lol)

Thanks MM ... I really wish they could stay babies longer as I am never quite prepared for how fast they grow up and I SO love "mugging" puppies and their wonderful puppy breath!
You know it seems my tinies are always that way: super feisty and really full of themselves! I guess they have to be "fighters" from the very beginning when they are that little or some of them wouldn't make it. It really is quite entertaining to see these teeny tiny little beings behave as if they are invincible! Very silly little creatures indeed. And a whole lot of fun.
Silly is one of my favorite attributes of the Chihuahua ... they really are a most endearing breed in so very many ways. 'Course, I might be just a "wee" bit biased!

Some are here because they hope to make a difference, others like to roll around in the feces. You'll be able to "sniff them out" in no time. -DJ's Doxies,
Okay, I'll bite ... tho it seems pretty self-explanatory.
"Show quality conformation" means just what it implies: A dog that is a quality typey representative of the breed conformation standard (as set forth by the national breed club), a dog that when you look at it says THIS is what my breed should look like. Simple enough ... although I will say in MY breed (this may very well be true in some other breeds, but I can only speak on mine) there are many differing "opinions" as to what that means and a wide variety in the "type" of finished champions for this reason. The Chihuahua is definitely NOT a "cookie cutter" dog.
Now, there ARE some dogs that may LOOK (and ACT) like "show dogs" in their own back yard ("backyard champions" we call them) and very well meet the breed conformation standard but, for whatever reason (perhaps a lack of getting them out and about and very well socialized with strangers and accustomed to the sights and sounds of the big bad world outside of their own home as a young dog - which is extremely important in my breed), simply do not like to show and so while they may have the physical conformation for showing they will not show or present themselves in the ring well, tho these dogs can still be a valuable asset to a quality breeding program and go on to produce beautiful dogs that do show well and are finished champions.
A true "SHOW DOG" has a combination of show quality conformation AND the ability/desire to present itself in the ring in a manner that says "hey, look at me, I'm what a [name your breed] is supposed to be" ...
