Well, my hubby just won't eat rabbit. That won't stop me from breeding and showing though. The ones who won't be shown, bred or sold will end up as my dogs' food. So for the questions
How much would you feed a chihuahua?
would you feed it whole (3lbs live weight,Not alive!! ) in a pack type setting, 3 to 4 chi?
Would you feed it in fur?
Head on?
Can it set out over night?
I prefer not to grind unless I HAVE to.

Not alive!! That was funny, but glad you confirmed it.

Good question as I have friends who have rabbits for sale, they are not alive either. I was thinking of adding it to my dachsies' food.

Your Dachies would have fun chasing it down and eating it up. Smile

Oh, you always make me laugh, I didn't expect that answer..LOL .. very good!

I know, they would go nutso chasing rabbits but I live on acres and acres of dense forest and I'd never find them again!!

Poor widdle wabbit..

Today they ..all of them..caught a "baby mouse" outside and brought it in to my "kitchen" yuk to show me. They were just way too proud of themselves over one little mouse. But I told them how great it was and tails were wagging non stop.

They don't draw blood if they don't have too, they "break necks" nasty, but it's their way.

Good hunters for small dogs!

GSP's are taught to be gentle with the kill too aren't they, so they don't mutalate the catch??

Well GSP's were bred to take down small game and bring it back. Some still do that. With birds they do need to not mutilate them.

We have a local guy that has a farm of animals raised just for animal consumption. He brought some bags of whole rabbits (they were cut up but the package contained the whole rabbit) and one bag had the head visiable and it totally creeped us out!! Don't think I could do that.....

We make Carnitas and we get the whole pig. Very gross to see a pig head in your fridge.
And find teeth in the meat after cooking it.

Oh, yeah, I can relate to that! My dad loves rabbit pies, stews..ect., and he buys the whole rabbit, I never know when he has them in his fridge and it always shocks me when he does... My dogs would go kill him some, but I won't let them!

I shouldn't even post this, but I will.

When I was a young kid, my dad went in partnership with a guy that owned a pig farm. Course there is only two girls, so I was the one chosen to help him out and slop and clean up pig sh#t. Gawd, the smell at first was so bad for me I couldn't stop barfing, but got used to it.

This pig farmer was the real McCoy, if one of the pigs became ill, or lame (they try to jump out of their pens? and break legs doing it) he would smack them over the head with an axe..eeewww, I'll never forget that.

Gotta give you the medal though Julie, pigs' teeth in the meat, beats my story!! yikes, they have big teeth.

BTW, Im in Canada here..what are Carnitas???

Carnitas is a food that mexicans usually have at big parties. It is cooked in a GIANT pot outside, with bunch of lard and seasonings. Very fattening but tastes so good! We get whole pigs from a farmer, thy kill it and slice it in half. My hubby went to go pick it up in my truck and when he came back I was surprise to see a pig in half laying in the back.
That is all lard in the pot.

Sorry TW for taking over your thread.
If it were me I wold just give them the whole thing. But I dont think they would eat the fur. I did once give my pups a recently dead chuckar and they gobbled it down, ate everything but the feathers.

Mini "Satans", ooooh! I'd like to know more about the Mini-satin and the mini-rex, can you post a pic of each or is it their temperament and not their looks that are so different??

I think the fur might be a problem for digestion, but not too sure. One of my dachsie's killed a squirrel..didn't eat any of it!! But a raccoon came along and devoured the whole thing fur and all. But raccoons aren't dogs, so???

The mini-rex can be sweet, the mini-stains are more often scrappy.

rexs have very soft short fur and satins have a shine to their fur.
their are some pic on the confirmed thread.

Is it eaten like a stew? Actually the guy in the video is pouring in bottles of ?? and as it's cooking down, doesn't look too bad at all.

I like the black too.
Mini-satins are a new breed. accepted in 2006. Right now red eyed white is the only show color. It takes 3 years of passing a board's approval before a color can be added.
we do have a working standard though for other colors.
