They sure must be able to hide for many, many generations when long time show breeders of over 35 years in the ring all over the country never saw a merle chi in the ring. Do you really think they were all so stupid they wouldn't recognise the merle pattern when they saw it? The merle gene is not a recessive gene that stays hidden that! many generations.

Here is my my answer..........I think the answer is that many, many people were prejudiced against the merles because there were problems when people who didn't know better bred two merles together. Not many will "fight the current & swim upstream" against the popular things. I don't doubt that few were ever shown. Why pay money to watch a good dog keep losing because people didn't know the facts. I wouldn't. Back then testing was not available for very many things. So the show people either discarded them from their breeding programs or never ever let anyone see them. We know a lot more now & have tests to check on many things. The old time prejudice has been passed on down among breeders. Those who are willing to study & learn & perhaps change their mind can do that. When a chihuahua is tested to see what breed it is (& its merle) & tests out to be 100% chihuahua people are still saying it isn't......what does that tell you about prejudice, chibreeder ? Lots of people like me have bred chihuahuas for years & have never ever shown their dogs. I haven't got very many chihuahuas out there in places where a lot of people will see them so if I had been breeding merles for close to 30 years I could have hidden them pretty well but not intentionally. We bought our first chihuahua in the 1960s (not for breeding however). What if he had been merle & we had used him for breeding ......... I could have many, many generations of merles here locally if I had done that. There are breeders all over the USA who have done the same thing. Not merles in many of them but enough to keep the merle pattern alive. And I do not have to tell you how people who had merles & were showing their dogs (not merles) were pressured by anti-merle people to get rid of their merles. I know two personally even though I do not travel in the
chihuahua show circles. And you well know I was pressured by show people even though I am not in their circle. Open your eyes, man. Friends fighting friends over the chihuahuas they choose to breed.

Yes, I did realize we were not friends when you began giving out info about me to people who were out to hurt me. You know you could have told me that you had decided to do that instead of me seeing it on a public board. At least I would have known to be looking out for "stuff".

Chibreeder you better go back & read every post I ever made to you or about you. Just ask all those ladies if we correspond & how often. I do talk to one of them occasionally but you can stop counting after "one". You have a problem with changing sides but I don't think I ever called you a turncoat. First you say you hardly know anything about me & then at the end of your post you say that you thought I was your friend.
I don't know who has changed the wording in my posts but when you quote me it is not like I worded it. If you are going to quote me do not edit what I said (that means do not remove single words to make it sound different).
Maybe you don't realize that you are leaking information about people you know to others but you sure do. That or there are some really, really good mind readers in the anti-merle camp.
It is the ONLY way that they got some info & I don't believe in mind readers.
We are on different sides as far as breeding merle chihuahuas is concerned. As long as you continue to say bad things about the merles I will defend them.

See there you go again.........I told you before just what I bought from the lady which was ONE merle female. Now it's that I "inherited the lady's merles". I'm a little tired of being called a liar. The other merles I had or bought were from other sources. I do believe that I explained once before how I aquired my merles (on this very board I explained it). If you must tell stuff get the facts right. Try listening to people who know the facts.

Imagine a supposed fine upstanding, ethical, responsible AKC breeder of some degree of integrity defending and abetting a lowly APRI/ACR/CKC chi breeder wannabee follower of the Knox Gang? Laughable. No matter how you bar-b-que the bull, it is done rare no matter how long it hangs on the spit......raw, rare and ready - there ya go - a whole new dance routine... BTW - my name is not Leslie. |
