AB 1634's Ship is Sinking!
The USS Lloyd has been hit! It’s burning, it’s listing in the harbor and its passengers have abandoned ship! Despite the possibility of reconsideration, it seems unlikely that this ship will ever float again. AB 1634 went down on a vote of 27 nays, and 5 ayes.
A new day has dawned
Most importantly a new day has dawned for California pet owners. No longer will California lawmakers believe there is only one side to pet issues and that one group, the animal rights contingency, cares more for pets than us. Despite the rhetoric of AB 1634 sponsors Judy Mancuso and Assembly Member Lloyd Levine, lawmakers had the good sense to look at more than the emotional side of issues presented to them by fundraising groups. Over the last year and a half marathon of amendments aimed at instituting mandatory spay/neuter rather than solving problems, lawmakers were forced to see the issue for what it is and recognize that responsible breeders and pet owners have been unfairly targeted. Moreover, they now understand that dog and cat breeders are a major force in improving pet welfare and responsible pet ownership through kennel and cat clubs, working and performance associations and rescue groups across the state. Caring for animals is not just a rallying cry for extremists, but something responsible dog and cat breeders do every day.
Thanks to everyone
To all the groups and individuals who’ve fought this horrendous bill, we cannot thank you enough. In 17 years we’ve never encountered a better campaign or more dedicated people. A separate article will be needed to properly thank everyone involved.
It ain’t over ‘til it’s over
Although capsized and full of holes, AB 1634 is still technically alive. Please use the next few days to call and thank your senator if he or she voted no and to solidify your relationship with them. The goal is not just to defeat AB 1634, but to replace the radicals as the go-to people for animal issues!
Here is a rundown of the Senate vote:
Democrat No’s (13) Corbett, Correa, Ducheny, Florez, Lowenthal (changed from yes to no during call) Migden, Oropeza, Perata, Ridley-Thomas, Romero, Scott, Simitian and Yee
Republican No’s (14) All but Battin who is listed as not voting
Finally, when reconsideration is no longer a possibility and you’ve thanked all the senators who voted no, please switch your attention to defeating Proposition 2, the ballot initiative that would cripple egg production in California. Wayne Pacelle has called Proposition 2 “Ground Zero” for the Animal Rights Movement this year and the Humane Society of the United States has called it their # 1 legislative priority.
Proposition 2 is now our number one priority too. If we defeat Proposition 2, we’ll deal animal rights radicals everywhere a serious blow. Here’s the request. Please go to website for the Californians for Safe Food Coalition http://www.safecaliforniafood.org/node/9, read the campaign material and then scroll down to the button that says “join the coalition” and click. This will put you on their distribution list and keep you informed as to what is going on. NAIA is proud to be a member of the Coalition and we urge you to get involved in helping us defeat this destructive measure.

I hope more and more people will start seeing PETA and HSUS for what they really are ... AR extremists who are far from "lovers" of animals and whose true goal is ZERO pet population.
In other words ZERO animals living like THIS:
LOL, he was so tired and falling asleep and yet every time Katie got off with one of the toys he had to get up and bring it back to his side ... he had not yet noticed she had snagged the stuffed tomato in the background but not long after I snapped the picture he did and went and rounded that up too! lolol
YaY..Von...that's gooooood news for California! Hopefully it will not raise it's ugly head again!
We have a terrible time in Canada, British Columbia especially with PETA and AR..they are nuts'... Every dog/cat/bird...neuter/spay..breeding licences, 350$ per breeding to a total of 2 breedings. All pups from litter to be sp/neut..regardless of show quality possibilities!
No tatoo's, only microchips..And they want us to be only "guardians" not owners of our dogs..The bill here is called C 373, but they aren't getting too far with it although they have tried twice in Pariliament!
We have to fight back here too, but it's not easy as you know.
good post! Gives me hope!

edit: Can I copy this Julie? I need it for our campaign! The wording re: responsible breeders is perfect.
Our cattle producers are worried sick as this will effect them too as well as fishing rights, poulty production ect....let me know.
