Hello to anyone who remembers me. I used to frequent these boards about 2-3 years ago. I own a 5 year old male NEUTERED dachshund and just got a new addition to the family a 3 year old female dachshund.

I have a few questions-
1st- I have had my 5 year old since he was a baby, and he has always been a doll. Nice to everyone- never growled. I recently got engaged and when my fiance and I moved in together- he became aggressive towards him. He growls anytime he touches him and he occasionally actually bites him. What could be the reason for this and how can I go about trying to change this.

2nd- The new girl I just got- she's a doll and so loving. The only pet peeve is that I walk her constantly and she pees 20 times outside and poops 1-2 times when I take her out- But an hour after she is in she goes to the bathroom in the house- CONSTANTLY!!!!! It's driving me crazy. How can I break this habit of hers?

Thanks! Hope all is doing well!

I dont know how to help you. I had chihuahuas who did the same thing! They would go outside but always went in the house too.
My gsp bitch is dominant and she will try to pee in my sons room if we dont watch her good.
I know she is trying to mark. Maybe yours is doing the same thing?
I have a dog bed outside for them and she will go and crap on it instead of the grass. It drives me crazy too!! She also lifts her leg to pee on higher things.

Dachshunds have their own minds, I know, I have enough of them to tell you horror stories??

The bathroom problem in the house: Likely she's drinking a ton of water when she gets back from her walk..then of course, she needs to go again, and it's possible her last owner didn't train her to ask to go out when she needed to go potty.. So, I would take her outside after she gulps down the water, if that is what she does, and let her go outside. Just an educated guess, as I have the same problem, mine will run all day outside, inside, drink water...then comes the night when they have to come in and they drink, drink and drink some more, so one last "walkies" is needed.

Re: growling and biting: Sounds like he's just plain ol' jealous of your new guy..LOL

Julie: Oh how I know what you mean..I have dog beds outside too and acres of land, but where do some of them "crap" yep, on the dog beds..why, why, why..??

I have a female that does that too, and couldn't figure out why. I thought females didn't mark, guess they do..good to know!

Some females lift their legs because they were between two males in their mother's womb...

My friend had a litter of pups (I was there saw them being born).. Well first there was a male born.. then a female.. then another male.. Well guess what? I kept the female that was born inbetween those two males and she pee's like a male.. lifts her leg on everything and never squats like a female.. It also goes vice versa for the males.. I have seen alot of males not lift their legs when they pee and squat like females because they were inbetween two females in the womb...

If you don't believe it.. next time you have a litter see if you have a female born inbetween two males or vice versa.. and if you do.. watch that puppy as it matures and you will see what happens.. I guarantee you it will take on the bathroom habits of what ever sex it was born inbetween..

Both of my bitches from the same litter lift their legs, they have pissing matches too, one one pee's the other has to pee over it and they keep on doing it.

In their litter there was only 1 male so it couldn't be because of that. They also scratch the ground and throw grass up. Their sire does that too.

My grandpa inherited a Dachsun from his neighbor when she got sick and that little bastard was WEIRD, he would bark at us every time we walked into the house even if we just stepped out and came back in, he knew us since he was a pup. I lived next door to my Grandpa so he saw me everyday. He snapped at the kids and he killed a whole litter of kittens, they were in their box and my Grandpa left him out whenever he went any where and came back to blood everywhere. Must have been the prey drive in him? But he was raised around cats. Also he would crap everywhere in the house mostly under the kitchen table, we would be eating and smell something look down and see pee and poop.
He only got nice when he was very old and when my Grandpa wasn't around, he lived to be like 17.
