FYI...

I was told never to use dawn dish soap and frontline or any spot-on flea control as the dawn, in doing its job, strips your dog of its natural oils.

Guess how frontline, etc works? It is applied to the dogs shoulders and is distributed to the rest of the body by....NATURAL BODY OIL.

So, if you still have fleas, you know at least one of the possible reasons. Knock wood, for whatever reason, I have not had fleas for ten-ish years. Not sure why, or how I have been so fortunate. I do NOT treat my dogs for fleas prophalacticly (word? spelling?) because I try to minimize the amount of poison I put on my animals (and myself and family!). I think I have applied flea control only a couple of times in those ten years. I do keep it on hand as I am sure I am bound to bring home fleas from somewhere, someday.

I think Seven Dust is pure poison, old-style and there are many better ways to control fleas.

I have heard great things about Diatomaceous Earth. The inhalation factor should be take into consideration, however. I have never used it.

I do actually use a bit of dawn in my dogs shampoo (tropiclean). But I do not bathe my dogs very often, to be honest, unless we are going to shows or they get filthy, or are blowing coat...one of the delightful things about my breed is they have no doggy odor...they shed like demons, but they do not get stinky. Any shampoo you use actually strips the natrual oils from your hair or pets hair. That is why it is not good to shampoo your hair more then needed. I wash my hair about 1 time a week. Of course I rinse my hair with every bath or shower, but I don't actually use shampoo or product in my hair other then the once a week.

I use the dawn dish soap when I have a real problem with Flea infestations and never put the spot on treatment for fleas on until 2-3 days later.

As for the fleas, ticks and what nots, I live in florida and we have a real issue with fleas. I have almost lost two dogs because of fleas and ticks. My one dog butterball had 14 ticks on his face alone when he went into the woods one day while I was up north. The people I left him with didn't notice the problem for at least 24 - 48 hours later.

two years ago my one dog was acting listless and when I went to look at him he had thousands of fleas, not hundreds but thousands.

With fleas you can stand in one area for days not having a problem and then one day there is millions in that same area.

We have NO choice but to treat our yard, our animals and our house for fleas.

Put it this way, when you treat all these places and animals {11} and you still see fleas that tells you it is a real issue in my area.

Funny thing is there is not much in this world that is not poison or chemically treated some how. Your furniture, household items, cloths, food, bathing products, ect ect ect.

Granted I don't like the frontline, but I will go back to advantage! Dawn dish soap when needed but people shampoo is what I generally use and very happy with it.

Just Saying! Wink

And I'm "just sayin" your methods are obviously not working since you still have a problem.

I had no desire or need to know you only wash your hair once a week and that has nothing to do with your flea problem, or at least I'd hope not.

I thought maybe, just maybe you would go "oh!" and think...

meh, nevermind, what the hell could I possibly know about these things?

I'll just wish you luck with your battle, and call it good.

meh, nevermind, what the hell could I possibly know about these things? didn't mean to make you think I was disreguarding what you had to say! But no means! Was just saying why I use what I use! 30 years of experience has brought me to dish soap, people soap and spot on treatment and seven's dust for several types of insect control. Florida has lots of bugs and I HATE BUGS!

I'll just wish you luck with your battle, and call it good.
