Finally a short break from the cooking. We will be having fork tender beef roast with carmelized onions, mushroom caps, in a light wine sauce.
Accompanied by Sagey sausage and apple dressing, sweet potatoes swimming in butter, brown sugar, orange and pineapple juice, and I made fresh pickled asparagus.
To finish off we have Moravian chocolate dipped ginger cookies, butter pecan ice cream, and home made pound cake. I am making home made whipped cream just because I might want some.
We are taking a large plate to the hospital to visit my father in law who is recovering from a bout of congestive heart failure. We hope he is home before the New Year.
We had cornish game hens, stuffed with carrots and onions, turnip casserole, steamed cauliflower, mashed taters, obligatory gravy, cranberry sauce, french bread, and desert was apple/cranberry crisp and eggnog pie.
Our company plans fell thro due to weather conditions, so we spent a relaxed snuggly day in our jammies, watching some of the new movies we got.
Hubby got me a new Dooney & Bourke purse and wallet, and a new springform pan! (needed that). I got him a new leather wallet and a mans gold ring. Not really happy with the stone. He wanted a green stone, and the only one i could find had malachite in it. Would have preferred an emerald or a peridot. Jareds does rings by design, so we may trade this one in and go build one there.
Plans for tomorrow are to go buy new pots and pans. We had decided we were going to get a new set and found some we like. We can mix and match allclad SS and non-stick.
Yum, that sounds good. Not the Cornish Hens though...one thing I cannot eat because of the bones and that spine! My Mom used to make them when were little and I'd always fight with my older sister to get the side (Mom split one for the two of us) without the spine.
Today we had a Black Forrest Ham. I am not a Ham person, but I actually liked this. My Dad bought it from his friend who buys groceries wholesale for his little store in town.
I made deep fried green beans (FAIR FOOD!) and a spicy gingery mustard sauce for a dip. They were yummy.
His Parents came to my Parents. My Sister didn't make it down from the Iron Range because of the weather. They are going to try on Sunday. See, I knew there was a reason I took an extra day off this Christmas...Monday.
Sean and I were going to put lighting under my kitchen cabinets on Monday, as our present...but now we'll probably be back at my Moms.
I got a Yankee Candle from his Parents and he got a Coleman propane lantern from them. My Family isn't doing gifts this year, so my Mom dug through some of her stuff and gave me an old decanter my Uncle gave them when the bought the house in the late 60's. I always remember that thing! I think she finally put it away in the late 80's!
We've had a bunch of wet snow on the dry snow, and now it's been raining all day. We were calling it Snowpacolypse, but I think it should be Slushpacolypse. When the wind kicks in tomorrow and the temp finally goes back to freezing, it was 38 today, lol. It will all be ice.
It turned out nice. I got an extra, new outlet and the lights, there are 3 banks with two settings each, are on a dimmer switch as well, so I can configure them in many ways, from task to accent.
Just think of the money we saved by not having to hire it out! He found some old hot wire in the wall from before the electrical upgrade...which was very weird. The old amp service...so that is fixed too.
We capped off the weekend with a visit from my Sister, BIL and Niece and Nephew.
She roasted a New York Roast. Which from what I gather, is the New York Steak, but in a roast form. I dunno, I didn't like it and I am the NY Fan. It was a different texture and it was cooked to medium rare (which I cannot handle.)
Anyways, my Mom is a riot, and she bought all of us Lava Lamps, lol. We were going to try a group picture, but she didn't realize that they have to run on for a few hours to get going...so we will share email pictures instead.
Homer has been here, and it's so weird to actually have two male dogs that get along. They have always liked each other, but now, Homer's more comfortable because he's been at Laura's since Bob's stroke and his subsequent move to a nursing facility.
It's just soooooo weird. Robby wants to be next to him all the time. They sleep with their backs to each other and a 24" high ex-pen between them. I even let them together and they curled up and snuggled each other in the same bed!
We took him in to Uptown today to visit Bob. It's been a long time since I was in a nursing home since Loni, passed away, but it was cool. He was a good boy and I know Bob loved him laying in bed with him for an hour. The other residents liked him too.
I had no idea where I was going after I got off the elevator, and before my eyes could watch for signs, Homey was already pulling me in the right direction. Laura's been taking him each weekend, but it was fun to see him walk the halls and find his Daddy all on his own.
The absolute BEST news of the weekend was that BF got called back to work after being laid off on Wednesday!
I half one more day of vacation, until it's back to work, for three days.
Okay the snow photos were awesome...I am green with envy for anyone that gets snow...it rained here christmas eve and when I took a photo of our outside lites in the rain it looked like snow...closet {that word don't look right...LOL} I will get for a while yet...
The kitchen is beautiful...noticed the dishes in the sink...assuming washed and set to dry...did take a little offense at the electric appliances thou...unless they are just there for decoration as I didn't see any outlets...J/K!
Didn't see a snowman in your Snow photos...found that a bit offensive too...no snow photo is complete without a snowman!
