My 10 month old maltese has just recently started peeing all over the place when he gets excited. It's kind of embarrasing and I don't really know what to do.

Perhaps this isn't the appropriate venue, but I just turned 92 and I often have the same issue.

Mod, Thanks for the chuckle. LOL

JMP - This is submissive behavior. Does this mostly happen when you get home? If so, just do not make a big fuss out of returning home. this is when dogs get the most excited. When you get home walk right past him and wait about ten minutes or so before going to pet him.

If it happens other times, just work very hard to control the excitement. We unknowingly by our actions make a puppy even more excited by the way we talk and fervently pet them. Just do your best not to get him excited or worked out, to the point of ignoring him and NO eye contact until he calms down if you have to.

It is the submissive behavior mixed with the excitement that a ten month old pup can't handle. They typically outgrow this. MY mini dox used to do it. She still gets as excited when I come home but no more peeing!

Hey Mod, I heard they have new depends with spaceship and alien designs on them! You oughta check 'em out!

I agree with DC with the addition of one comment:

When you come home, ignore the dog and take it out to pee first thing!!

Its best to NEVER go nuts over dogs when you leave or come back. Encouraging this behavior makes them anxious and can create separation anxiety. Only followers fawn all over their leaders, not the other way around. Owners should always be the calm assertive one.
