ok, I need some help from you cat fanciers out there. I have a kitty that insists on sleeping in the litter box, which is just gross! I have tired everything to keep her out of it from not cleaning it as often thinking maybe she won't lay in her own crap but nope, she doesn't seem to mind at all which is even more disgusting to me! Have any of you ever had this problem and if so how were you able to solve it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I mean I have had kitties that every now and again you would find curled up in a fresh box but not like this girl, she is all the time sleeping in the box. Thanks

Give her a bed.

Some are here because they hope to make a difference, others like to roll around in the feces. You'll be able to "sniff them out" in no time. -DJ's Doxies,

She has a bed. Matter of fact there are beds placed all around the house yet she chooses the litter box?

Vet check her for urinary problems. After a clean bill of health, cage her with a comfy bed only for short periods of time. Maybe she'll learn the difference.

Agree completely with Hu. I would find a treat she likes - whether it is a kibble or a tiny bit of shredded cheese, etc. and begin leading her to the bed. Leave a kibble and a cuddle toy IN the bed. Give her whatever affection she seems to enjoy when she goes to or lies down in her bed, etc. Let us know how she does. Smile

Another thing that you could possibly try, depending on your diligence and her potty behaviors... would be to remove the litter box and only give it to her once an hour or so, and ONLY for the amount of time it takes to potty, then remove again until next potty break. But that's just a suggestion. I don't know how well it would work, if she's not perfect with the box. Some cats refuse to go anywhere BUT the box, like Cat, and others don't really care. Cat was afraid of the bathroom for some reason and we had put the box in there for the first two days, but when I realised he wasn't using it and had just been holding it for two whole freaking days, I moved the box so my poor baby could use it. (Yes, he was holding it, because I caught him on the second day, finally peeing, and boy, he sat there for several MINUTES straight, peeing.)

I dont know much about cats, but a heating pad draws my dogs like a magnet.

might try to put a heating pad in one of the beds near the litter box.

Could it be the location where the litter box is? Try putting one of her beds where the box is. If that doesn't work, see if she will lay in a brand new litter box without the litter of course. Could be she just happens to like that style of box better than the beds.

This is what my kitty did--I mean she used to like this box and slept in it all the time, and we could no longer let the box there-it had to be taken down. The day we broke it down, she was meowing over the area the box occupied searching for her fav. box.
She remained like that for one whole week and was so upset about the box that we had to put it back again. I guess what you can do is to remove the litter box from there and put her bed in that same place, give her some time to adjust to this change-make sure the litter box is nowhere to be seen by her!
