I have a 3 year old tiger cat that goes into heat two or more times a year . The cat came from the MSPCA . She was the runt of the litter she was so small and sick that at 9 months she still looked like a kitten . I had to wait till she was 16 months to have her spayed after she still went into heat . The vet told me they must have missed a small peice of the overies and offered to do it again if I wanted I could not put the poor little cat through it again and have lived with it . The cat is healthy and well taken care of but are there any future health risks from this . LOOKING FOR ANOTHER OPINION

Would a progesterone test, I know they can cost a lot depending on the vet, be able to tell if the cat still had partial ovaries before opening the cat up again?

When Mo had surgery to repair a hole in the paracardial sack, the vet did me a favor and spayed her while she was on the table at no charge because he knew I wanted her spayed anyway and he found the early stages of ovarian cancer...his reasoning was why open the cat up twice when it can all be done at once. I still joke that he missed something as she gets very "needy" from time to time. But for a $1500 surgery that she had a 50-50 shot of surviving...I'm not going to complain if he did miss something when he spayed her.
