All of my dog's lymph nodes are swollen and his eyes are really runny and red. We took him to the vet and he gave us meds for his eyes and said that his blood work appeared fine but to brace ourselves b/c it could cancer. He wants us to give him Cipro for a week and to bring Elmo back. While I'm freaking out this week does anyone have any other ideas of what it could be??
If the vet said the blood work looks fine, all anyone can say for now is that Cipro is a good multi-purpose antibiotic for treating an array of bacterial infections (re: of which swollen glands and runny eyes/nose may be symptoms).
That said, there have been some cases of dogs with cancer whose bloodwork falls within normal limits. This is not meant to alarm you, but rather to share information. Just love you furbabe this week and perhaps keep a log of eating and activity habits as well as demeanor to bring with you next week. Hopefully, your vet asked you about any behavioral and activity changes and, if there are any, when the onset occurred, its progression, etc. I am guessing he prescribed Cipro as a precaution and possible cure for a week vs. immediately recommending every test in the book. Ethical vet if so. Write down any questions you have in the meantime and bring those to the vet as well. My best to you and your dog. Keep us posted.

It's too bad that LB's angst resulted in an honest, informative post (by Paw) being removed. Shame really, there were one or two things in there that I had not known previously.

Well one thing is certain. Even if the original poster of a thread is not appreciative of a member's time they took to post, others surely are. I thought Paw's post was outstanding.
