When viewing email that contains an active link, I am unable to click on the link. I get a message which says that this is not permitted on this computer and that I should check with the systems administrator. This is my computer and I can't seem to change the security setting to permit me to do this. Can anyone help me?

Thank you in advance
Ed

Hi Ed,
I don't know a lot, but I'll try to help. have you checked your security in your email. Go to tools, options, security...
Xp has a lot of gliches and if you update your program regularly (it has a lot of security settings in the updates), that helps a lot.
The only other thing I can think of is to go and change your passwords. That's a big pain, I know. Sometimes you can check the microsoft site and see if they have anything about that on there.
I know how you feel and it's frustrating because it is your computer. I used to say the same exact thing...this is my pc, why can't I get it to do what I want it to..I am the administrator!! lol
I'm thinking about the links..do you have your pc set to accept cookies? If not, you can set it to accept them, all except third party cookies and then it might work.
One more thing, go to your internet explorer and clik on tools, internet options, and then clik on security, make sure it says the first one, "internet", then go to general and delete cookies and then delete files (these are temporary internet files) and that might help.
Clik on privacy to accept cookies (if need be). you can check the settings under advanced, if you understand what is in there. I don't know how much you know about pc's, so I don't recommend that unless you know a lot about those settings. If you do think it's in those settings, I can tell you what I have checked on mine, if you need me to.
Good luck and please let me know if any of this works.

Thanks Sally, but I have tried all those things. This function used to work until I started receiving those da** updates. I will just have to keep trying.
Thanks again.

You know, it's those updates that I hated about xp. I got xp cuz I thought it was better. It's not and it eats up your virtual memory whenever you try to do anything. ugh!!
I changed over to win2k now and it's better. I used to have winMe, but I thought with all the hype about xp, that it would be so much better. I even upgraded my memory, still locked me up all the time and it kept moving around all my files so things wouldn't work.
I used to search computer forums for answers to xp. Sometimes I got lucky.
I hope you can find the answer to that. It's so irritating, I know.

Have you reloaded your outlook? You have to save all your emails first, it you want them and then reload it..that might help. Another pain, too. In my opinion, mostly everything is a pain in xp. But I'm not jaded here.lol

You can try to go to network connections...view connections and go to the advanced tab and make sure that the firewall box is unchecked.
