I'm setting up a web page at GeoCities [Pro Plan not a free one] If I ask a question on their help place - all I get is an answer in computerese. So I have a few more of my stupid questions.
What is a directory?
What is a subdomain?
I'm supposed to have 5 email accounts, but I have no idea how to use them and when I ask, it either sends me to Yahoo! or puts up a dialog box to set-up an account and send someone an invite to use the new email address. I have asked them every way I can think of - selected 'not even close' everytime and asked again and just go round and round.

So far setting up the thing has been fairly easy.
Any help would be appreciated.

I found this site online...maybe it will help? I'm sorry I don't know how to do a website. It does tell you about subdomains though.

Little Johnny - Thank you for taking the time to find that for me - but it doesn't explain it at a level I can understand. I know a 'domain' is an address and a subdomain is like a little branch of that address, but I don't know how it works or how to tie it together - if I try to set up a subdomain, it asks for the 'directory' I want it connected to - if I ask what a directory is it says it's part of the domain - it just keeps using the same terms over and over - referring one to the other - which doesn't give me enough information to define any one of them.

A directory is a place on the server where you html and pics (etc etc) are stored.
A good common example of a directory is the public_html folder.
In ref. to the sub domain, it sounds as if thy are asking you to link the two together.

Example...
a domain www.mydomain.com has its contents pulled out of the public_html folder (or directory)
If I wanted to extend my domain to a subdomain: cats.mydomain.com, I would have to set up a differnt directory in the public_html directory. At this point I would make a folder called cats (just a example) so when people go to cats.mydomain.com, they would actually be seeing the content out of the cats folder which is located in the public_html folder (directory).

Perhaps this will help a little.

Yes, I think so anyway - I'll have to think about it - sometimes it's harder to make connections in my head than on the computer.
Thank you.
